Chapter 11

What!?

Qiao Shu stared in terror, her eyes wide.

She had offended the Regent King!?

The owner of the handkerchief was actually Ye Piaoling…

In other words, it was Ye Piaoling who had offended the Regent King!!

Qiao Shu was dumbfounded.

She had come, pretending to be someone else in hopes of gaining some benefit, but she never imagined it would come to this!

In that instant, Qiao Shu regretted her decision so much that even her insides felt twisted with remorse.

She opened her mouth, wanting to explain, wanting to say she actually wasn’t the person Chonghua Palace was looking for.

But her throat was filled with blood, and as soon as she tried to speak, all that came out was a gurgling sound-she couldn’t get out a single word…

Liang Yun looked at her half-dead state and nodded in satisfaction:

Hmm, this should be enough!

Only then did he order his subordinates to drag her before Di Xiulan…

“Master, your subordinate has found the person.”

Qiao Shu, gravely injured, crawled on the ground, vaguely making out the noble figure seated above.

It was said the Regent King was as beautiful as a celestial being. Qiao Shu wanted to see that peerless face, but the intangible pressure made her unable to lift her head. She could only kneel on the floor, trembling.

She didn’t even dare utter a single extra word.

Because she suddenly understood: deceiving the Regent King was a capital offense. Only by continuing to pretend might she have a sliver of hope for survival!

A slip of paper fluttered down, accompanied by a man’s heavenly voice.

“Let her read it.”

Liang Yun picked it up and glanced at it, full of confusion.

Liang Yun: ???

Not understanding, Liang Yun could only obey the Master’s order and handed the slip to Qiao Shu. “Read it.”

Qiao Shu took the paper with trembling hands.

She saw only two characters written: Wo Cao.

Qiao Shu was stunned.

Wo Cao?

What did that mean? It seemed like some kind of curse?

Why did they want her to read this?!

Di Xiulan toyed with a thumb ring in his hand, the curve of his lips icy cold.

That brazen woman had left behind two things: a handkerchief and the phrase Wo Cao.

Qiao Shu stared at the words on the paper, completely at a loss.

Liang Yun urged her, “The Prince wants you to read it.”

Qiao Shu dared not disobey. Swallowing a mouthful of blood, she mustered the softest, most charming voice she could and read aloud:

“Wo… Wo Cao…”

After hearing this, Di Xiulan closed his eyes and sighed lightly.

This woman was definitely not the one from the previous night.

Back then, that Wo Cao was shouted with fluency and vigor, full of breath and with a completely different tone than now…

With his long fingers, he impatiently rubbed his brow. “Found the wrong person. How annoying.”

Liang Yun was shocked.

What!?

After following the clues, he had found the wrong person?

He glanced at Qiao Shu and immediately understood-this woman was lying!

“How dare you deceive Chonghua Palace, do you want to die!”

Qiao Shu was so frightened she kowtowed repeatedly, hurrying to say, “Spare me, my lord! This servant did not mean to deceive you, this servant knows who you are looking for… This handkerchief was indeed given to me by my aunt, but not long ago the Eldest Miss of Ye Mansion, Ye Piaoling, took a liking to it and took it away…”

“So the one who offended the Prince must be her! If you don’t believe me, just bring her here and check on the spot… If I utter a single false word, may I be struck by lightning!”

Ye Piaoling?

Hearing this name, Liang Yun’s expression shifted. “Is that the Ye family’s Eldest Miss, the Immortal Vein Bearer who turned into a useless one?”

If she was an Immortal Vein Bearer, things were not so simple…

People on this continent only knew that Immortal Vein Bearers were geniuses and regarded them as auspicious omens.

But they did not know why the Immortal Vein existed, or the real meaning behind it!

“An Immortal Vein Bearer, hmm?”

Di Xiulan’s fingers tapped lightly on the armrest.

Now this was rather interesting.

Liang Yun said, “Master, I’ll bring her in at once!”

“No need.”

Di Xiulan let out a quiet laugh.

Since that’s the case, he didn’t mind making the trip himself to see what was going on with that woman…

…

Qiao Shu was thrown back in front of Ye Mansion’s gates, barely clinging to life.

When Ye Liaozhai returned home and heard that a maid had been taken away by Chonghua Palace, beaten, and then sent back, he was filled with dread.

A maid from the mansion had actually offended Chonghua Palace. Ye Liaozhai feared he would be implicated, so he immediately ordered Qiao Shu thrown out.

Such a maid was nothing but trouble-who would dare keep her?

When Ye Piaoling heard about it, her feelings were complicated.

Because the handkerchief had been given to the original owner by Qiao Shu, Chonghua Palace had definitely found the wrong person and thought Qiao Shu was the one from that night.

At night, Ye Piaoling sprawled lazily in a rocking chair in her courtyard, eating watermelon and sighing at the unpredictability of life.

If it weren’t for Qiao Shu, perhaps she would have been the one beaten…

“Swish!”

Suddenly, a masked figure in black leapt over the wall, brandishing a forty-centimeter-long broadsword, and charged straight at her.

It was the assassin hired by Aunt Liu.

Ye Piaoling was startled, hurriedly swallowed the watermelon in her mouth, and shouted, “Wait!”

The assassin sneered, pointing the sharp blade at her: “Any last words? I love hearing last words the most.”

Ye Piaoling asked, “How much did the person who hired you pay?”

The assassin said, “Three hundred taels.”

“So little?!” Ye Piaoling looked astonished. “I think my life is worth at least a thousand taels. Don’t you think so?”

The assassin frowned, considered for a moment, and said, “I think you’re right. After I take your life, I’ll go ask my employer for the difference.”

Not far away, two figures stood in the shadows, unnoticed.

Di Xiulan stood tall and elegant, his black robe embroidered with dark golden, demonic totems, his garments fluttering slightly in the night breeze.

Liang Yun said, “Master, someone is here to assassinate Ye Piaoling. Do you need me to help?”

Di Xiulan raised a hand to stop him, a glimmer of interest in his deep eyes. “Let’s see what she can do.”
