Chapter 4
Chapter 4
I dragged him into the house.
I picked up the dagger as well. The hilt was actually inlaid with gemstones, so it must be worth a fortune. I’ll return it to him once he wakes up.
I struggled to drag him onto the bed. He was still unconscious, and the smell of blood clinging to him was overpowering.
I hurriedly stripped off his clothes, only to gasp in shock. His body was covered in a mix of fresh wounds and old scars. There was even a gaping hole in his shoulder where a large chunk of flesh had been gouged out.
Just thinking about it made me tremble with phantom pain.
Tears welled up in my eyes, but I quickly wiped them away with my sleeve and began tending to his injuries.
I busied myself with the task, working until the following afternoon. Finally, he slowly opened his eyes.
I rushed to the bedside and called out happily, “Husband!”
“…”
He stared straight at me.
I continued, “Are you hungry? I cooked some pumpkin millet porridge. Would you like some?”
He tried to prop himself up against the edge of the bed to sit, but I immediately pressed him back down.
“Don’t move! You’re covered in wounds, and I just finished applying the medicine.”
That medicine was something the physician had left for me long ago. It was very expensive, and once it’s gone, it’s gone.
My exceptionally handsome husband gazed at me for a long time before finally speaking. “Who are you?”
His voice was a bit raspy, but it still sounded very pleasant.
“Husband, my name is Ye Zhao,” I said with a beaming smile.
For some reason, his expression looked quite strange. “Why are you calling me ‘husband’?”
My eyes widened. “Because Fang Jingheng said you were coming here to marry me!”
“…”
His brow furrowed slightly as he murmured, “Fang Jingheng… could this have something to do with the Ningyuan Marquis’s Residence…”
He even knew about Fang Jingheng’s new identity! I really didn’t pick the wrong person!
I finally have a husband, and he’s so good-looking too-Fang Jingheng is truly kind to me!
Feeling elated, I poured him a cup of water to soothe his parched throat. He looked down at it for a moment before suddenly looking up at me. “Wife, this water is too hot.”
Eh? Is it that hot?
I took a sip, looking at him in confusion. “It’s not. I specifically let it cool down.”
He blinked, took the cup from me, and drained it in one gulp.
I understood then.
He wanted to drink from the same cup as me. The older sister next door once taught me that this is the kind of playful affection shared between a married couple. He was acting spoiled with me.
I took the empty cup from his hand. “Then you lie back down. I’ll go get your food.”
I took two steps toward the door before suddenly remembering something and turning back.
“By the way, husband, what is your name?”
He gazed deeply at me. His face was pale from blood loss, which somehow made him look even more beautiful.
“Xie Shanyu,” he said. “My name is Xie Shanyu.”
