Chapter 3

Later, I was kicked out of the cafeteria.

Naturally, the large serving spoon I had contaminated was tossed aside to be washed.

I sat alone on the stairs at the cafeteria entrance when a shadow suddenly enveloped me.

He was standing behind me. I felt like it was too much effort to turn around, so I just tilted my head back to look at him.

“Something up?”

His eyes were beautiful. Even from this deathly angle, they were still stunning.

Humans are such bastards for being visual creatures.

So, when Yu Yang wanted to add me on WeChat, I had no reason to refuse him.

After adding him, he would share bits of his daily life with me from time to time.

At first, I thought he was like that with everyone.

Later, I discovered that he had pinned my name to the top of his chat list.

As the Medical School Heartthrob, Yu Yang always kept a cold, handsome face. I had assumed he just had a detached personality.

I only found out later that it was because he found everyone annoying.

So, at four in the morning, I deliberately called him.

Sure enough, I heard his pleasant voice, clear and articulate.

“Fuck.”

After a moment of silence, I heard his voice soften with forced patience.

“What is it?”

“Yu Yang, I can’t sleep.”

I gripped my phone, splashing around in the puddles at the base of the dormitory building.

“Can’t sleep? Go run ten laps downstairs.”

The man’s voice was thick, a hint of nasality mixed into his cool tone.

Clearly, his brain wasn’t fully awake yet, and his chuckle felt like a tickle.

“Want me to hold you while you sleep?”

“…”

“Yu Yang, come down and play with me.”

The truth was, I had actually called everyone in my contact list.

But that day, only Yu Yang came down to play with me.

As a side note, to my great delight, I was blocked by more than half of my contacts the next day.

Anyway, at four in the morning, under a bright moon and sparse stars, just as I was splashing in the puddles and getting water on my pants, Yu Yang arrived.

Short sleeves, a trench coat thrown on haphazardly-he was pressing down his messy black hair with one hand while yawning with the other.

I had no idea how he managed to get out of his dorm.

Seeing me, he narrowed his eyes unceremoniously.

“Little Lunatic.”

“…”

I kicked water at him viciously, but he dodged it with leisurely grace.

“I’m telling you, if you really called me out of my warm bed in the middle of the night for nothing…”

He walked over to me, standing a head and a half taller, looking down at me with a detached gaze.

“I will definitely pick you up and throw you in the river.”

“…”

I pulled my jacket tighter; the night breeze was a bit chilly.

Subconsciously, I huddled into his shadow.

“Yu Yang, I’m too hyped to sleep. My heart rate is fast one moment and slow the next, do you understand? My head is a mess, and this has been going on for a long time…”

He looked at me quietly for a few seconds.

“A manic episode?”

I nodded.

“Have you seen a doctor?”

“I did, and I was prescribed medicine, but I’m still like this. I can’t control myself. My mood is so high, and everyone thinks I’m weird…”

I tugged at the hem of his coat. He kept his hands in his pockets, clearly acting like it wasn’t his problem.

“Oh.”

“…”

I thought he would at least offer some comfort.

“Fine, so it’s just mania.”

“I told you, didn’t I? If you woke me up for nothing, I’d throw you in the river.”

??!

He grabbed my wrist. I stumbled along as he pulled me. Suddenly, I realized the direction was wrong, and I felt a strange surge of excitement.

“Yu Yang, wait. Yu Yang, the lake is up ahead. Wait, where are you taking me…”

…

So he really was going to throw me into the lake?!

This guy was way too literal about keeping his word!

…The only thing that was perhaps a little different was that he jumped in with me.

If one of us hadn’t known how to swim, the morning news tomorrow would have been about a couple from a certain university committing suicide by jumping into a lake together.

Even though it was early summer, the lake water at night was still freezing, and the water quality was likely not that great.

I kicked frantically in the water, while the person beside me had already calmly reached out to haul me up.

Our school’s artificial lake seemed quite shallow; near the shore, it felt like he could basically touch the bottom.

I gripped his collar tightly, my wet clothes clinging to my body in a strange way.

“Are you sick too, Yu Yang?”

His bangs were dripping with water. Finding it annoying, I brushed them back for him, only to realize he was smiling.

A man with such striking features looked even more captivating than the moonlight when he smiled.

“Yeah, I’m sick too.”

The warmth of his breath filled my ear.

“So, others might think you’re weird, but I won’t.”
