Chapter 1

I drank too much and insisted on dragging a stray dog into a dance.

The result? The dog bit me.

Now, I’m sitting in the Animal Injury Department’s consultation room.

I’m staring blankly at my ex-boyfriend-the one I once cheated on.

I’m starting to suspect there might be a case of medical malpractice today.

Because the sound of Yu Yang snapping open the glass ampoule was incredibly crisp.

As the syringe drew up the transparent liquid, his eyes above the mask remained as cold and aloof as ever.

He frowned the moment he looked at me.

“Pull your skirt up a bit.”

“…”

I hesitated for a second or two, and the man let out an impatient click of his tongue.

“It’s not like I haven’t seen it before.”

“…”

Yu Yang said the immunoglobulin shot would hurt.

I didn’t expect it to hurt that much.

The dog had bitten me in a very awkward spot: my inner thigh.

His name was still tattooed right there in plain sight, making it look like I was still hopelessly pining for him.

He pressed a cotton ball soaked in povidone-iodine onto the wound with rough movements.

To those in the know, he was debriding the wound; to those who weren’t, it looked like he was trying to scrub something off in a fit of rage.

When the needle went in, his hand was swift and utterly merciless.

I sucked in a breath from the pain.

He glanced at me.

“Hurts? You didn’t scream like that when you were tattooing my name.”

“…”

After Yu Yang finished giving me that injection, he vanished.

When the door opened again, it was a nurse telling me to expose my upper arm for the vaccine.

I had originally just rolled up my sleeve, but the nurse said she couldn’t reach the spot that way, so I had to pull half the garment off.

We were both women anyway, so sitting there in just my bra wasn’t a big deal.

“Where’s Doctor Yu?”

I looked up and asked as the nurse flicked the syringe.

“He went back to his consultations. Is something wrong?”

I let out a soft “oh.”

I had assumed he would be the one giving me the vaccine too.

The vaccine needle was so thin I barely felt any pain. While pressing the cotton ball to my arm, I stared at the paper the nurse had just handed me.

It said I needed to come back four more times to complete the full course of the vaccine.

“So, will Doctor Yu be here for the next…”

I looked up to ask the nurse, only to unexpectedly lock eyes with a pair of cold, aloof eyes.

I hadn’t realized when the man had walked back in; he was currently opening the cabinet where the medicine was stored.

His smile was anything but friendly.

“Don’t worry. You won’t see me. I’m not scheduled to work on any of those days.”

I froze, staring at his long, slender fingers as he gripped a glass bottle.

It wasn’t until the door clicked shut that I realized something.

In my half-dressed state, he had basically seen everything.
