chapter 4
“Don’t worry, I don’t like men.”
I drank my milk and rummaged through my backpack to toss a steamed bun to him.
“I’m starting a diet, but it’d be a shame to waste food. Every grain is hard-earned. After all, we’ve been desk mates for so long, so I guess I’ll let you have it.”
Lu Xiuqi lost his parents in a car accident back in middle school, and he’s been living with his grandparents ever since.
I heard from classmates that his grandparents are quite old and not in good health, supporting his schooling by collecting scraps.
Teenagers eat a lot, and he’s an athlete, training every day.
Sometimes during class, I could often hear Lu Xiuqi’s stomach rumbling.
Lu Xiuqi put away his casual attitude and looked at me seriously. “Alright, I’ll do you the favor and eat it.”
I finished my milk and glanced at my own seat.
Strange, class is about to start-why isn’t Liu Qingqing here yet?
We’ve been swapping bodies for so long, and she’s never been late before. Could she be sick?
I sent a message to my own phone, but no reply. I called, but no one answered.
Lu Xiuqi lightly kicked my foot.
Students aren’t allowed to bring phones to school, so before the Homeroom Teacher walked over, I quickly hid my phone in my bag.
I was distracted the whole morning self-study. Just yesterday, Liu Qingqing was chatting with me late into the night, swearing she’d found a way and that we’d be able to switch back this week.
As soon as class ended, I stood up and hurried over to the Homeroom Teacher.
“Teacher, where’s Chen Yanxia? Why didn’t she come to class?”
The bald Homeroom Teacher looked at me in surprise, as if he hadn’t expected Liu Qingqing to be involved with the star student Chen Yanxia.
“She transferred.”
The midsummer sun shone on me, but I felt like I’d fallen into an ice cave.
“Trans… transferred?”
The Homeroom Teacher pushed up his slipping glasses. “Chen Yanxia’s whole family moved to America. She completed her withdrawal procedures last week. A few close classmates even threw her a farewell party. Didn’t you know?”
I couldn’t hear anything after that, because I fainted.
Before closing my eyes, I seemed to see Lu Xiuqi running toward me.
