Chapter 6
“Xiao Zhou, why are you back?”
Ye Cen could not hide the shock in her voice.
“I came back because I missed home. Isn’t that what you instructed, Mother?”
“Now that I’m back, Mother seems so surprised-”
The corners of his mouth quirked up slightly, as if he were smiling, yet not quite.
“Is it that I’m no longer allowed in this house, or is Mother up to some more shady business?”
Every sentence addressed her as “Mother,” but every word was laced with thorns.
I frowned as I listened.
In the past, although Shen Yezhou had a strained relationship with his mother, he would at least call her “Mom.”
Now, he couldn’t even be bothered to say “Mom,” yet he called Jiang Tian’s parents “Dad” and “Mom.”
Just what had happened over these past few years…
“Madam-”
Chang Bin suddenly rushed past me.
My train of thought was forcibly interrupted, and I turned around in confusion.
Ye Cen was lying stiffly on the rosewood sofa, her breathing shallow and rapid. Her usually composed face was now a pale, sickly shade of green.
I couldn’t help but feel tense.
With Chang Bin gone, the space around me felt suffocatingly cramped.
I could even smell the faint scent of alcohol lingering on Shen Yezhou.
To me, this distance was far too dangerous.
In any other setting, I could have just let everything go to hell.
But here in the Shen Family home, in front of Ye Cen, I couldn’t bring myself to make a scene.
It would only make me look like a cheap clown.
I casually took two steps to the side, trying to distance myself from Shen Yezhou.
Instead, he took a large stride forward, hooked his arm around my waist, and pulled me directly toward his mother.
His arm was like a wall of bronze and iron.
I tried to root myself to the spot, but I lacked the strength. I could only let him drag me forward.
“It’s so late, yet my dear Mother is still entertaining guests at home. You really do work hard.”
Shen Yezhou forcibly pressed me down onto the sofa. “What kind of deal did you just strike? Let me hear it too.”
“Xiao Chang, take Miss Ning back.”
Ye Cen managed to catch her breath, but her entire being radiated a dark, somber aura.
I stood up obediently.
But Shen Yezhou pushed me back down again.
“I am, for better or worse, more than half the master of the Shen Family now. Isn’t Mother being a bit too disrespectful?”
He adjusted his wristwatch with a languid expression, but every word was a warning.
With Ye Cen watching like a hawk and Shen Yezhou pressing me so aggressively, I gripped the cold phone in my hand, caught in a dilemma.
After three years, I had absolutely no desire to interfere in their family affairs.
I wanted to just walk away, but I only had a fake ID on me.
Without Chang Bin’s help, even if I knew where to catch a bus, I wouldn’t be able to pass facial recognition to enter the station.
As the three of us reached a stalemate, Ye Cen spoke again.
“Don’t you want to know what happened three years ago? Let her go, and I’ll tell you.”
“God knows what kind of lies you’ll cook up this time. Compared to you, I’d rather hear it from her personally.”
Shen Yezhou’s tone was indifferent.
Ye Cen sneered. “Even if you want to hear it from her, you have to see if she’s willing to speak.”
Everyone’s eyes fell on me at once.
“I don’t have a habit of reminiscing with ex-boyfriends.”
I curled my lips into a smile. “I’m afraid my Gu Xiao would get jealous.”
Shen Yezhou kicked over the coffee table.
His fists were clenched tight, and the veins in his neck bulged like lightning bolts carrying destructive power within dark clouds.
I knew he must be absolutely livid right now.
But I felt no sense of accomplishment.
As his former lover, I had always known exactly where to twist the knife to hurt him most.
When we were together, I never imagined that one day I would use my understanding of him as a weapon to wound him.
Yet over these three years, I had pierced his heart through and through…
“Let’s go,” I said, standing up and signaling to Chang Bin.
He looked at Ye Cen.
Ye Cen nodded heavily.
As we walked out, Chang Bin looked back every few steps, seemingly worried about Ye Cen’s safety.
“If you don’t leave now, you might regret it.”
I gave him a subtle warning.
Chang Bin jolted, and his pace immediately quickened.
This time, Shen Yezhou did not try to stop us.

The Price of Love
At the class reunion, my ex-boyfriend held his fiancée close as he announced their wedding date.
I snapped a photo and prepared to send it to his mother with the caption: “They look...
