Waited for a few minutes.

He didn’t bend down to check Under the Bed.

Instead, he walked straight toward the door.

Was he going out?

My gaze followed his steps toward the door.

If he really left, I’d look for a chance to slip out through the window.

Even though it was the seventh floor.

But in this misfortune, there was a stroke of luck.

This place didn’t have any safety bars.

I could climb out the window and onto the neighbor’s balcony.

This might be my only chance to escape.

I slowed my breathing.

Stared hard at his legs.

One step, two steps, three steps…

Really!

He was really heading for the door.

I was saved.

Excitement started to rise in me.

My chance had come.

I crouched Under the Bed, quietly waiting for him to leave.

But soon,

I was proven wrong.

He reached the door, but didn’t move another step.

Why was he standing at the door?

Damn it.

That damned vibration sounded again.

The Man at the door dialed the Phone once more.

And this time,

He turned off the lights in the room.

The room was instantly plunged into darkness.

Only the screen of the Phone, tightly covered in my palm, flickered faintly, casting a weak glow.

Wanted to use the light to find the Phone.
