I was both shocked and infuriated. “What… what kind of nonsense are you talking?”
“A woman in her prime like you, Sister-in-law… it’s truly unfair to let my brother have you all to himself.”
He drew closer, step by step.
I raised my voice. “There are plenty of servants nearby. If I call out, they’ll be here in an instant.”
Hengzhi didn’t seem to care.
He kept coming until my back hit the cold bark of a tree, leaving me with nowhere left to retreat.
He whispered a reminder, “Go ahead and scream, Sister-in-law. I’d love to see if my brother would still keep you in the Shen Family once your reputation is ruined.”
I opened my mouth to shout, but then I stopped myself.
Shen Hengzhi’s tone was flippant, but his actions hadn’t actually crossed any lines. He wasn’t trying to assault me; he was trying to drive me out of the Shen Family.
So, I pressed my lips together and remained silent.
After a moment, Shen Hengzhi took two steps back and sighed.
“Since you’ve made your choice, Sister-in-law, I wish you luck.”
With that, he turned and vanished into the shadows.
I leaned against the tree, my heart racing faster and faster.
Why did Hengzhi say that I didn’t belong here?
