chapter 9
Lu Qingyao let out a cold snort, wearily rubbing his brow.
The impatience in his tone had already reached the brink of disgust:
“I’ve been in meetings for hours. I’m exhausted.”
“I have no energy left to watch you put on an act.”
Lu Qingyao’s work was busy and irregular.
Over the years, I had long since gotten used to caring for him silently and avoiding causing trouble.
In the past, he wouldn’t even have to say he was tired.
I would automatically step forward to show concern, accommodating and trying to please him.
But this time, I held back, sitting quietly and unmoving.
I merely lifted my eyes to look at him, my expression calm:
“Then go home and rest early.”
Lu Qingyao’s expression suddenly froze.
A trace of panic and confusion I couldn’t understand flickered in his eyes.
In the next instant, he returned to his usual indifference:
“Whatever.”
“If you have the guts, keep your word. Don’t come home again.”
Inside, I felt as calm as dead water that cannot be stirred.
I nodded and smiled softly: “Alright, as you wish.”
“As you wish, my ass.”
Suddenly, Gu Lin, who was standing by my side, spoke coldly.
With a swift yet gentle motion, he pulled my wrist onto the table and handed it to the doctor.
Then he straightened up, blocking me in front of him, and turned to face Lu Qingyao.
His gaze was deep, his expression unfriendly. He only said one thing:
“Get out.”
