chapter 20
“Your WeChat profile picture… is it a couple’s avatar?”
“Is the other half SpongeBob?”
The scenery outside the car window kept slipping past.
Gu Lin, who was driving, suddenly asked, seemingly casually.
I nodded. “Mm, sort of.”
“Who with?” Gu Lin’s Adam’s apple bobbed. “Boyfriend?”
“With my QQ account.”
I answered naturally.
Gu Lin clicked his tongue, pursing his lips in speechless disbelief.
I shot back, “What, just because you have WeChat now, you’re ignoring QQ?”
“They’re siblings, after all. Even if QQ isn’t as popular as WeChat these days, you can’t just neglect it.”
As I spoke, the bitterness in my mouth grew. I turned sideways, leaning against the seatback.
I stuck out my palm and begged Gu Lin for candy:
“Gu Lin, can I get an advance? Let me have the candy before we go to the hospital.”
“Not calling me ‘Ge’ anymore?” Gu Lin glanced at me, his tone faint.
Me: ???
Isn’t it possible that ‘Ge’ is just a figure of speech?
“Not that ‘Ge’-a different ‘Ge.’ Come on, give me a piece of candy.”
I grinned cheekily at Gu Lin.
Gu Lin burst out laughing too. “No way.”
My smile froze instantly.
I ground my teeth in secret.
The car stopped at the zebra crossing, waiting for the traffic light. Gu Lin reached out and knocked me on the forehead.
“Don’t think I don’t know what you’re up to.”
“If you eat the candy, it won’t count as an empty stomach, so you won’t have to go to the hospital, right?”
“You promised me. No backing out.”
My little scheme exposed, I shrugged and pouted, playing the brat:
“I said goodnight to my Imperial Guard.”
“I never said I promised you.”
Gu Lin snorted. “Fine, when we get home tonight, I’ll dismiss that damned rabbit and exile it to the trash bin.”
As he finished speaking, the light turned green. Gu Lin stopped talking and started the car.
The scenery outside the window kept slipping past.
I let my smile fade, lowered my eyes, and said softly:
“Sorry, Gu Lin.”
“Now there’s really no one left to bring flowers to my grave.”
Gu Lin really got the short end of the stick in this grave contest.
But Gu Lin didn’t seem to mind. His eyes curved, his smile gentle:
“Then try a little harder. Live freely and boldly.”
“Shine bright while you’re alive. After you’re gone, you won’t need anyone to bring flowers – your own grave will bloom.”
