chapter 10
The door to the consultation room closed behind me with a backward push.
Gu Lin pulled up a chair and sat down next to me.
He didn’t say anything more, just quietly watched as the doctor unwrapped the gauze.
I turned my head toward him and took the initiative to break the silence:
“Give me the transfer contract. I’ll sign it now.”
So I wouldn’t waste his time.
But Gu Lin didn’t respond. His eyes swept over the gruesome, bloody gash on my arm.
He pressed his lips together, then looked up and met my eyes:
“Weren’t you in a hurry to use it? Why give it up now?”
“If you’re not going home, where will you go?”
Once the grave’s secured, isn’t that enough?
Why does he still need a reason? This feels like an interrogation.
I was going to just say, “I don’t need it anymore,” and brush him off.
But Gu Lin’s gaze was far too serious and sharp.
For a moment, I felt that lying wouldn’t stop the questioning.
I took a breath and had no choice but to answer helplessly:
“Finding someone to handle my body is too much trouble.”
“So I’m planning to die in the sea and feed the fish.”
“I won’t be needing the grave-hiss!”
The doctor seemed startled by my strange words.
He lost his gentleness with the gauze, pulled too tight, and a jolt of pain shot through my arm.
He smiled at me apologetically and snipped the gauze.
After a pause, he suddenly spoke softly:
“Not going to try treatment anymore?”
“If stomach cancer is well controlled, five years shouldn’t be a problem.”
I was dazed for a second, then smiled and shook my head:
“Ah, I’ve lived enough. Three or five more years wouldn’t make a difference.”
I pulled my bandaged wrist back, stood up, and turned my head.
I was about to ask Gu Lin for the contract again when my gaze unintentionally swept past the agent behind him.
I blinked, suddenly realizing:
These two seemed to have come empty-handed, didn’t they?
“So? Where’s the transfer contract?”
Gu Lin’s expression froze.
His thin lips pressed together, his eyes growing dark and hard to read.
After a few seconds of thought, he spoke slowly:
“Lu Siyuan, let’s share the grave.”
