A Doctor is truly a Doctor-always full of ideas.
Xiao Qian suggested helping me hide the necklace to test Lian Huai’s reaction once he realized I was gone. That way, I could see exactly how much I meant to him.
I certainly couldn’t touch the necklace myself.
However, as ghosts, we were occasionally able to play small pranks in the human world. Sneaking away a necklace wasn’t a difficult task.
Xiao Qian walked to the bedside and gently unclicked the necklace’s clasp. She pulled it out from under Lian Huai’s neck and gave it a happy little shake toward me.
A blue star-shaped diamond dangled from the simple silver chain, shimmering softly under the moonlight.
The sleeping boy seemed to sense something. He furrowed his brows restlessly, looking as if he might wake up at any second.
I hurried Xiao Qian along. “He’s going to notice! Hurry, hide it!”
“Hide it where?”
I had a sudden inspiration. “How about this? Just take me away entirely. Find a random fire outside and toss the necklace in. We can save ourselves all this trouble.”
I wanted my freedom so badly.
