“Lian Huai, what are you so happy about?”
He immediately sat up straight and touched his lips. “Nothing.”
His mother walked over.
My heart sank.
The bite mark I had just left on Lian Huai’s neck was now clearly visible to Lian Huai’s mother.
The woman’s expression faltered for a moment before she set down the fruit and left.
At dinner, Lian Huai’s father, who was usually too busy with work to be home, appeared at the table.
Lian Huai didn’t look much like his father did when he was young.
Perhaps due to my years of companionship and guidance, he took after me more; his temperament and personality were a bit kinder.
My ex-boyfriend, Lian Xiucheng, had always been a cold and detached man. Now that he had reached middle age, he had become even more stern.
Both Lian Huai and the younger version of myself were quite intimidated by him.
“Lian Huai, are you in a relationship?” Lian Xiucheng asked, cutting straight to the point.
Lian Huai’s chopsticks paused for a second. “Not yet.”
His mother added from the side, “It’s normal to like a girl at your age. As long as it doesn’t interfere with your studies, your father and I won’t stop you. Why don’t you bring her over? We’d like to meet her.”
Lian Huai chewed on a few grains of rice, a faint glint of amusement in his eyes. Out of nowhere, he replied, “She’s sitting right next to you.”
Suddenly put on the spot, my eyes widened, my mind racing with exclamation marks.
“Stop talking nonsense!” I reached out to cover his mouth, causing him to choke and cough.
Lian Xiucheng frowned and scolded, “Lian Huai, be serious!”
His mother also took on a grave tone. “Lian Huai, you know your father doesn’t like jokes.”
Lian Huai shrugged. After all, no one knew he was telling the absolute truth.
