Chapter 10
Chapter 10
Even though I was a ghost, I could feel the air temperature rising.
At such close proximity, a sticky sense of ambiguity surged through the dry heat.
Why did it suddenly get so hot?
Could it be that at my age, this old tree was finally blossoming and I was actually feeling shy?
I stared blankly at the boy’s profile.
He held a pen in one hand, working through practice problems, while his other arm remained draped around me. He really did have a bit of a cynical, playboy air about him.
Even though I hadn’t given birth to this kid, I had always been proud of his looks.
Probably only a blind girl could manage not to like him, right?
Whispers began to drift through the quiet self-study hall.
“It’s so hot.”
“Of course it’s hot. The power’s out.”
Oh…
Lian Huai finally offered an explanation: “It’s just a hug. Are you afraid I’m going to eat you?”
I was basically a mobile air conditioner; holding me was cooler than holding a block of ice.
But why did his words feel a bit… suggestive?
Was his mind in the gutter, or was mine just filthy?
“Let go. Right now.”
“You used to let me hug you.”
“How old were you then, and how old are you now?”
“Are you talking about my age or something else?”
I screamed in frustration, “Your age!”
A sinister voice rang out from behind my head. “What’s all the racket, Ji Xingxing? Do you really think this is your territory?”
In this world, besides Lian Huai, only my own kind could see or hear me.
So, it went without saying who was speaking.
My expression darkened as I turned to lock eyes with the female ghost behind me. She was dressed in a school uniform and covered in blood.
I considered myself capable of getting along with all my peers, with the sole exception of Xu Wenmei.
Xu Wenmei was a senior who had died in a school bathroom stall a few years ago.
The Top Student Ghost from the class next door-who had jumped off a building after failing an exam-told me that she had hidden in the bathroom to take abortion pills, and the resulting hemorrhage led to her death.
Xu Wenmei’s resentment was off the charts. She didn’t just bully her own kind at school; she wouldn’t even let female students she disliked off the hook.
Ruan Jing, the new transfer student in Lian Huai’s class this semester, was currently suffering under her persecution.
Ruan Jing was new to the school and unfamiliar with her surroundings. For some reason, she had been isolated by some of the other girls as soon as she arrived.
I often saw Xu Wenmei playing petty tricks on her.
Sometimes she’d hide one of her pens.
Other times, she’d trip the girl while she was walking normally.
During the 800-meter run in PE class, Xu Wenmei would intentionally cling to her back to add extra weight.
I couldn’t stand it anymore and told Xu Wenmei to tone it down.
That was how our feud started.
Xu Wenmei had mocked me: “Stop acting like such a bleeding heart. Do you have any idea how often this brat goes to the bathroom to smoke? She makes it so smoky I can’t even stay there!”
She was something else, coming up with any ridiculous excuse she could.
I certainly didn’t believe her.
Ruan Jing was so timid and well-behaved; her entire face would turn red just from saying a single word to Lian Huai. How could a girl like that smoke?
Subconsciously, I glanced toward Ruan Jing’s seat.
Coincidentally, she was turning her head back to talk to the person behind her.
Her eyes kept darting toward Lian Huai.

The Ghost in the Necklace
My ex-boyfriend turned my ashes into a necklace and hung it around his son’s neck for eighteen years.
For those eighteen years, my soul remained trapped by the boy’s side.
