Chapter 18
Chapter 18
I couldn’t accept Anping’s death.
Even less could I accept that, even in death, she had to be branded as overbearing and insulted as being “as stupid as a pig.”
My poor, kind Anping-even as she was being poisoned to death, she never once gave up Sun Hanzhou.
That day, blinded by fury, I did something I had long wanted to do but had hesitated to carry out.
I crawled to the head of Consort Shu’s bed in her living quarters. I urinated on her pillow, then viciously exerted every ounce of my strength to spray the toxic secretions from behind my ears directly onto her face!
Anping was dead, yet she actually had the peace of mind to take an afternoon nap!
It was her own damn luck. I had originally only intended to spray the toxin on her face to quietly disfigure her.
As it turned out, by some stroke of pure coincidence, she actually opened her eyes at that exact moment.
A portion of the poison sprayed right into her eyes.
A blood-curdling scream erupted from Consort Shu, echoing through the hall.
I cursed inwardly, knowing things had gone south. My body hit the floor, and I began hopping frantically toward the exit.
The scene was absolute chaos.
Countless palace maids and guards rushed in and out to the sound of Consort Shu’s shrieking.
A toad was running for its life through the crowd!
Someone shouted, “An assassin! There’s an assassin!”
Others yelled, “A toad! There’s a toad!”
In any case, I had nearly escaped Consort Shu’s quarters before those idiots finally realized they should try to catch me, the toad assassin.
Resourceful as ever, I took a leap and dove into the flower bushes beside the ceremonial gate.
Just as I was panting, celebrating my narrow escape, I suddenly noticed a shadow looming over me.
I lifted my head.
The last thing I saw was a black boot with a red sole, embroidered with a Vermilion Bird and auspicious cloud pattern, descending from the heavens.
