Chapter 15
Chapter 15
My plan to pee and spray venom ultimately fell through.
Xiao Lan told me not to go looking for trouble.
By the way, Xiao Lan, Little Cricket, and I have moved.
We followed Princess Anping when she moved into Princess Anning’s Jingyi Palace.
Anping lives in the side hall, so we set up our home along the corridor outside her window.
Unfortunately, there are no lush thickets of weeds here, nor are there any vegetable patches infested with aphids. This has forced Little Cricket to huddle in a corner of the wall; even his chirping has grown much quieter.
Xiao Lan has become quite busy, heading to Penglai Pond every day to find food.
He still tells me not to leave Princess Anning’s sleeping quarters lightly. He has already scouted the area and says it’s relatively safe, with no snakes or rats about.
Xiao Lan also warned me not to interfere in Princess Anping’s affairs.
He said that everyone has their own fate, and we must all accept what heaven ordains.
I don’t really agree with Xiao Lan. He always forgets what I’ve said: to live is to struggle!
But I promised him I wouldn’t act recklessly, lest I be caught and bring trouble upon us.
Thinking it over carefully, Anping herself is spineless. What could I, a mere toad, possibly do for her?
As time went on, I continued to watch Anping be bullied. I watched Princess Anning become more aggressive, her behavior growing increasingly excessive.
The worst time was when she actually ordered the eunuchs at her side to shove Anping’s head into a water vat in the courtyard!
Anping nearly drowned!
While she sat slumped on the ground in a pathetic state, shivering uncontrollably, Princess Anning doubled over with laughter.
She stepped forward and crouched beside Anping with a look of feigned innocence. “Sister, I was only joking with you. You don’t mind, right?”
Anping clenched her fists. For the first time, she lifted her head and stared directly at her.
Behind the water vat, my body trembled with excitement-
Hit her! Hit her!
In the next instant, Princess Anning’s palm slapped across Anping’s face!
I was stunned.
Princess Anning said angrily, “You dare look at me with those eyes? Are you trying to harm me? I knew it-you’re just like your Imperial Consort Mother, wicked to the core!”
Anping didn’t fight back!
She was too cowardly!
Even after being bullied to this extent, she ultimately just endured it and lowered her head.
Watching her body tremble with a mix of rage and fear, I couldn’t take it anymore.
I went back to the home Xiao Lan and I shared under the corridor and cried to him, “Tonight, I absolutely must pee on Princess Anning’s pillow and then spray venom right in her face! You have to be my lookout!”
Xiao Lan stopped me once again. He said, “This isn’t Fenghuan Palace. The moment you ruin Princess Anning’s face, the imperial physicians will be able to diagnose exactly what caused it. To kill the ‘pests,’ they’ll scatter lime or clam-shell charcoal in the courtyard. Being unable to stay with Princess Anping would be the least of our problems; if we can’t hide in time, we’ll end up getting Cuizhi killed too.”
He was right. Little Cricket was most afraid of clam-shell charcoal.
I was so frustrated that I hugged Xiao Lan’s head and wailed at the top of my lungs again.
“I don’t care! I’m going to explode! I’m going to explode from anger!”
