I saw Nie Feng again half a month later.

He must have sneaked out of the hospital. He was wearing the blue striped hospital gown, his head still wrapped in gauze, sitting carelessly on the ground at my front door with no regard for his appearance.

I hadn’t seen him so disheveled since five or six years ago. He was the new elite of A City, always dressed in suits, the crease of his trousers sharp as a blade. His handsome face had grown more impassive, and the higher his position, the more he learned to restrain the sharpness he once displayed. Deep and solemn, wherever he went, people would greet him politely with, “Hello, President Nie.”

The last time I saw him like this, so unkempt, was probably just after graduation.

He heard footsteps and suddenly looked up.

At that moment, I had just picked up Xiao Hai from school.

His gaze slowly shifted from me to Xiao Hai by my side, then his expression changed slightly, his eyes focused.

He had always been smart and quick to accept things. Even if he had lost eight years of memories, I believed he could piece together the general outline of these years from what people around him told him.

He started his own business and succeeded, we got married and had a child, he fell in love with someone else, and I asked for a divorce.

I held Xiao Hai’s hand and stopped far away from him, asking coldly, “Why are you here?”

He seemed to hold back for a moment, then asked, “Is he our child?”

Xiao Hai wasn’t very close to him. He stood quietly and distantly by my side, looked at Nie Feng, then raised his head to me and called, “Mom.”

I patted his head and said, “Go inside and do your homework first.”

He glanced at me, then at Nie Feng, softly replied, “Mm,” and went inside with his backpack.

When Nie Feng and I were about to file for divorce, he was in a car accident and lost his memory.

His memory was stuck eight years in the past.

Eight years ago, he loved me the...
