“You’re not just on your period, Jiang Keke. You’re married, aren’t you? Were you using any contraception?”

I looked at her with utmost seriousness.

“You’ve had a miscarriage.”

“What?”

Everyone stared at us in shock. Jiang Keke shook her head furiously, like a rattle drum.

“That’s impossible. I just had bad cramps for a couple of days. How could it be a miscarriage? No way.”

When a miscarriage happens right after getting pregnant, the symptoms are almost the same as period cramps. It’s perfectly normal that Jiang Keke didn’t notice.

“There’s no time for an ultrasound now. Jiang Haoyan, go buy a pregnancy test. After a miscarriage, HCG levels drop gradually-it should still show up.”

Jiang Keke stopped Jiang Haoyan. “I already have one in my bathroom. I’ll test it myself.”

With that, she hopped to the bathroom on one foot. After a while, she came out, face as white as a sheet, holding a pregnancy test in her hand-two bright red lines staring everyone in the face.

“Mas-Master Qiao, I guess it really wasn’t just my period… What do I do? Should I go to the hospital and get checked out?”

“Oh, you silly child! How could you not even know you were pregnant? You have to be more careful!”

Madam Jiang’s eyes instantly turned red. She gently smacked Jiang Keke, then grabbed her arm to steady her.

“Go lie down on the bed. I’ll get someone to make you some chicken soup.”

I glanced at President Jiang. His mouth hung open, eyes empty, expression dazed, as if his entire worldview had just been turned upside down.

“Call your eldest son and daughter-in-law-have them come home immediately. Bring the two granddaughters, too. And where’s your mother? Get her back as well. Before the Zi Hour tonight, everyone must be at home.”

President Jiang shuddered all over, looking at me in disbelief as he stammered, “You-you can even predict that? I-I’ll go make the calls right away.”

Jiang Keke looked at me, eyes full of awe and a hint of fear.

“Master Qiao, how did you know my brother’s two kids are girls?”

I pointed at her nightstand.

“There’s a family photo sitting right there. No miracles here-it’s just science, all right?”
