Chapter 3
Chapter 3
Because I agreed to it, the path to divorce was incredibly smooth.
Without even notifying our parents, we obtained our divorce certificate. It was just as rushed as when we had gotten our marriage certificate.
As the party at fault, Zhou Yisheng gave me a large sum of compensation, even gifting me our family home.
After two years of marriage, it took him only half a day to pack his belongings.
I watched him carry his luggage to the car and drive away. Throughout the entire process, he never once looked back.
Five years. I thought to myself that even if you raised a dog for that long, there would be some feelings involved, right?
When Zhou Yisheng decides to be ruthless, he is truly heartless.
It was precisely because of this that I suddenly wanted to see the person he was cheating with. I wanted to see just how wonderful she was to make Zhou Yisheng become the very thing he despised most in life: a cheater.
In the end, I held myself back and didn’t go.
Since we were already divorced, not bothering each other was the best way to show respect for the relationship we once had.
The day after the divorce, I received a WeChat message from Zhou Yisheng’s younger sister, Zhou Miao. She asked me who the girl was who had come home with her brother.
The message was followed by three emojis of hands covering mouths while giggling.
I stared at those words for a long time before finally feeling a sense of release.
I replied: {It’s your new sister-in-law.}
After sending that reply, I deleted Zhou Miao’s contact immediately.
Zhou Miao had never liked me. She sent that message specifically to make me feel uncomfortable, and I wasn’t about to let her have her way.
I didn’t have the courage to be a single mother, so on the third day after the divorce, I went to the hospital to schedule a painless abortion.
The stern-faced gynecologist, a woman in her fifties, told me that the procedure required a family member to accompany me.
I truly didn’t have any family in this city, but who doesn’t have a few good friends?
On the day of the surgery, I asked my best friend to come with me. Just as I was about to enter the operating room, she suddenly grabbed my hand.
Her face was full of worry. “Ruru, will you regret this?”
I will.
I knew the answer. But there were two possible paths for that answer, and either one would be painful.

The Divorcee’s Second Chance
Six years after our divorce, I ran into my ex-husband on a street corner while holding my three-year-old daughter.
He stared blankly at the girl in my arms for a long time before knitting...
