Chapter 2
Chapter 2
As if afraid I would cling to him, Zhou Yisheng grabbed his keys and left immediately after mentioning the divorce, without sparing me another glance.
He didn’t return until the following morning.
I huddled on the sofa and cried all night, my mind racing. I still couldn’t understand why Zhou Yisheng would cheat.
As a rising star in the business world, Zhou Yisheng managed his family’s declining enterprise. It was thanks to him taking over that the business had seen a significant turnaround over the past two years.
Because of this, he was so busy he barely had time to rest. Working during the day and socializing for business at night had long since become his norm.
Being this busy, how did he even find the time to have an affair?
After Zhou Yisheng returned, he stood at the entrance, hands in his pockets, watching me quietly.
He couldn’t fathom my despair in the slightest.
I stared back at him from the sofa, even though my eyes were so swollen they were mere slits.
I don’t know how much time passed before I heard him speak. “Are you done crying?”
Done crying?
Thinking back on our five years together, whenever we had the occasional argument, I was always the one to compromise first, regardless of who was at fault. He had never once tried to coax or comfort me.
My one-sided devotion had now become nothing more than pathetic desperation.
I struggled to stand up from the sofa. A dull, throbbing pain radiated from my lower abdomen, but I chose to ignore it. I simply lifted my chin and asked Zhou Yisheng, “Why?”
Why did he cheat?
We had known each other for seven years and been together for five. Last night, I had imagined countless reasons why Zhou Yisheng might ask for a divorce. As long as it wasn’t infidelity, I would have forgiven him for anything. But of all things, he had to cheat.
Zhou Yisheng looked away indifferently, a hint of impatience in his expression. “There is no ‘why,’ Li Ruge. Our time is up. Can’t we just part on good terms?”
What a line-‘our time is up, part on good terms.’
At that moment, my heart died completely.
I nodded under Zhou Yisheng’s startled gaze.
“Fine.” I forced a bitter smile. “Let’s get a divorce.”

The Divorcee’s Second Chance
Six years after our divorce, I ran into my ex-husband on a street corner while holding my three-year-old daughter.
He stared blankly at the girl in my arms for a long time before knitting...
