Chapter 6
“What did you say?”
The grip on my wrist suddenly tightened.
Jiang Zheng froze for a moment, his face darkening. “Say that again.”
“I said…”
I placed my hand over the back of Jiang Zheng’s.
His hand was trembling.
“Jiang Zheng, let’s get married.”
“Married?”
Jiang Zheng let go of me and took a few steps back, a mocking expression on his face. “For Ji Yan’s sake, you’re actually willing to trade your marriage.”
“This has nothing to do with Ji Yan.” I looked straight at Jiang Zheng. “Are you willing to marry me?”
Jiang Zheng sneered. “What? Are you trying to make me your official husband now? Keeping the red flag flying at home while the colorful flags flutter outside?”
Jiang Zheng pinched my chin. “Shen Tingwan, I’m not that generous!”
I broke free from his hold. “Ji Yan and I are just friends. He was only trying to help me tonight.
“So, please don’t make things difficult for him.”
Jiang Zheng’s eyes darkened, and his lips curled slightly. “After all that, you’re just worried I’ll cause trouble for him, aren’t you?”
“Jiang Zheng, everything I’ve said is the truth.”
“Fine, even if everything you said is true!”
Jiang Zheng’s jaw tightened, his eyes a deep, dark void. “Shen Tingwan, am I some dog you’re raising?
“When you’re happy, you beckon and coax me, and when you’re not, you kick me aside.
“You leave whenever you want, and you come back whenever you want!”
Jiang Zheng’s voice was heavy with suppressed rage. “What do you take me for? Huh?
“What makes you think I would marry you now?”
I looked at Jiang Zheng.
The air seemed to freeze.
After a long silence.
I turned and twisted the door handle. “Fine, I understand.”
“What the hell do you understand?”
Behind me, Jiang Zheng’s voice was arrogant and dismissive.
“Shen Tingwan, if you think I’ll marry you in this lifetime, you’re dreaming.”
