Chapter 5
Chapter 5
Ji Yan drove me home and dropped me off at the entrance of my building.
When I stepped out of the elevator, the hallway light was out; the property management hadn’t come to fix it yet.
I fumbled in the dark, searching for my keys.
“Shen Tingwan, you picked the wrong person this time.”
A familiar voice rang out behind me.
I didn’t turn around, continuing to search for my keys.
“Ji Yan might look successful on the surface, but he’s just an adopted son of the Ji Family.
“Now that Old Ji Chairman is critically ill, he’ll be kicked out of the Ji Family any moment now.”
The key slid into the lock.
“I know.”
Jiang Zheng suddenly grabbed my hand, pinning it down. “You know?
“You know he’s about to lose everything, that he’ll be chased out of the Ji Family like a stray dog, and you’re still willing to be with him?”
My silence only fueled Jiang Zheng’s irritation.
“Fine.” A mocking smirk curled on Jiang Zheng’s lips. “Since you like him so much, I’m sure you wouldn’t want him to lose that plot of land in Chengnan, would you?”
I snapped my head up. “What do you mean?”
Jiang Zheng let out a cold chuckle, his tone casual and indifferent. “What? Getting nervous? It’s just a small piece of land that the Jiang Family gives away for people to play with.”
Currently, Ji Yan’s father’s health was deteriorating. If Ji Yan wanted to enter the Ji Corporation and establish a firm foothold, that land in Chengnan was the best stepping stone.
Ji Yan had been in private negotiations for a long time but had never been able to secure it.
I hadn’t expected that the true owner behind that land was the Jiang Family.
I stared at Jiang Zheng. “Don’t involve others in the matters between us.”
Jiang Zheng acted as if he had heard a joke. “Don’t you know? I’ve always been this kind of person.
“Selfish, unscrupulous, and willing to use any means necessary.
“I only put on a mask before to please you.”
I took a deep breath. “What do you want?”
Jiang Zheng looked up. “It’s simple. I want you to break up with him.”
I frowned. “Jiang Zheng, even if I break up with Ji Yan, we-”
“We what?”
Jiang Zheng yanked me toward him. “Shen Tingwan, do you think I want to get back together with you? You think far too highly of yourself.”
Jiang Zheng stared at me, his eyes burning with intensity. “Since you don’t like being my girlfriend, then-”
“Jiang Zheng,” I interrupted him. “Let’s get married.”
