Chapter 4
Chapter 4
Things had reached a point where playing dumb was no longer meaningful.
I was forced into the Strategic Investment Department of Ju Bingyuan’s company, where I began analyzing markets and making strategic investments out in the open.
I had a background in finance and had always been a top student. Having followed Ju Bingyuan for so many years, I had naturally absorbed much through osmosis.
Coupled with my secret investments over the years, I had both the theoretical foundation and practical experience.
Consequently, after joining the Strategic Investment Department, I got the hang of things quickly, even finding myself quite at home there.
Workplace relationships can be as complex or as simple as one makes them.
After I showed my capabilities, there were naturally people who disparaged me behind my back, but most of my colleagues accepted me quickly.
“It’s fine, you don’t have to wait. I’ll send it to you once I’m done…”
Working overtime late at night, I thought I was speaking to the department head who was supposed to be waiting for me. When I turned around, it was Ju Bingyuan, whom I hadn’t seen for days.
Since our showdown that day, Ju Bingyuan had been nowhere to be found.
I assumed he must have been absolutely furious.
As the prince of Shanghai’s elite circle who had been put on a pedestal since childhood, he was used to the honey traps of the social scene and the cutthroat battles of the business world. To be blindsided by me of all people-how could he not be driven to a fit of humiliated rage?
To him, this wasn’t some game of superior skill; it was a profound insult.
Thinking of this, I felt both fortunate that I had amassed enough capital and physical investments that he couldn’t touch me for the moment, and a secret, rising sense of vengeful satisfaction.
Those who treat others as playthings-how can they be sure they won’t eventually play with fire and get burned?
Ju Bingyuan’s gaze lingered on my computer screen for a few moments before he slowly broke into a smile.
“This model…”
My heart tightened.
I had learned this from him too.
Ju Bingyuan had quite a knack for investing. By figuring out the logic of his models, I had effectively mastered his trade secrets without him knowing.
Essentially, it was like stealing the man’s livelihood.
Yet, after several days apart, he didn’t show the anger from that day. Instead, he gave a faint smile.
“Ah Yu, I really underestimated you.”
I waited with bated breath for his interrogation, but instead, he straightened up and placed a key on the desk.
“No matter how busy work gets, you can’t just not go home. Your health is important.”
I turned my head and looked at him in surprise.
I thought that after what happened, we were finished. I had already moved out of his villa with my few belongings.
Ju Bingyuan naturally understood what I was thinking. He let out a soft laugh.
“Running away after you’ve learned everything isn’t exactly the behavior of a gentleman.”
I grumbled inwardly; I wasn’t a gentleman anyway.
But now wasn’t the time to argue with him.
While he couldn’t force me to cough up all my money right now, if he truly became ruthless, I’d certainly be in for more than I could handle.
I tried to read Ju Bingyuan’s mind. Most likely, he had suffered a setback at my hands with nowhere to vent, so he was determined to make me work for him by day and serve him by night until he was satisfied.
Regardless, I no longer had to be sycophantic around him. Sleeping with him wasn’t a losing deal for me either.
I composed myself, shut down my computer, and followed him back to the place that had been my cage for four years.
After a shower, Ju Bingyuan seemed to be in an even better mood.
He gestured for me to come over.
He pulled me into his arms and pointed at his laptop screen.
“Today, I’ll teach you another investment model. It’s even more useful than the one you peeked at.”
My eyes widened as I looked at him in disbelief.
He looked back at me with amusement.
“Why are you looking at me? Look at the computer. Don’t you want to learn anymore?”
Either he was crazy or I was, but I actually detected a hint of doting in his eyes.
But that kind of doting was merely the amusement of finding a new curiosity; it could never be considered true love.
That was why I had always hated the concept of being ‘spoiled’-because from the very beginning, it carried the gaze of a superior looking down upon an inferior.
However, at this moment, I was certain of one thing.
After his initial fury, Ju Bingyuan had developed a new interest in me.
An exterior that was obedient and honest, while secretly stirring up trouble right under his nose in the Shanghai Circle.
This contrast had only further incited Ju Bingyuan’s desire for conquest.
He would give me whatever I wanted, putting in every effort to win my heart.
But how could he know? From the moment he demanded I be his Canary four years ago, my heart had already died.
