Chapter 2
Chapter 2
Professionals truly live up to their reputation.
Those trust consultants have significantly bolstered my little private stash. Now, my sights are set even higher.
Continuously dabbling in quantitative investment for stocks and funds is just a process of trading air for air. Ultimately, there are risks involved. Only by investing in tangible entities can I make my money more secure.
But with so many companies out there, where would be the best place to invest?
It wasn’t until that day, when Ju Bingyuan suddenly had a whim and dragged me to a suburban winery for a tasting, that I found my answer.
That wicked man insisted on blindfolding me, forcing someone like me-who knows nothing about wine-to distinguish between them. Every time I guessed wrong, I was punished once.
He never seemed to tire of teasing me.
By the end, I was sprawled on the bed, as dried up as a dead fish.
Only then did he lazily pick up the phone that had been ringing all evening. From the fragments of his conversation, I pieced together that he had been awarded some business-related prize again. Calling it an award was a stretch; it was really just a gimmick to trick him into going there for publicity.
Ju Bingyuan had long since moved past needing such superficial things to show off. Since he found the invitations annoying, he figured it was more fun to come and bully me instead.
A spark of inspiration suddenly struck me.
The perfect investment target was right in front of my eyes.
I might not know about other physical companies, but Ju Bingyuan was a top-tier old fox. If I followed him, would I ever have to worry about not making money?
As the saying goes, a soldier who doesn’t want to be a general isn’t a good soldier. By the same logic, a Canary who doesn’t want to be a financial backer isn’t a good Canary.
Rather than living with palms turned upward, relying on a patron for money, it’s better to let that money snowball and become a true capitalist myself.
If this were an ancient palace drama, it would be like this: instead of fighting with the other concubines for a sliver of the Emperor’s favor, it’s better to just overthrow the Emperor and take the throne myself.
Of course, I wouldn’t dare tell Ju Bingyuan about these thoughts. If he knew I was stirring up trouble and snowballing profits right under his nose, he’d skin me alive.
I’ve been biding my time and swallowing my pride precisely for this day!
Staying close to Ju Bingyuan gave me the advantage of being “the waterfront pavilion that gets the moonlight first.” I aimed for the right moment and acquired a small amount of retail shares.
Though it was only a tiny fraction, the dividends I received were quite substantial.
When I saw Ju Bingyuan again, I actually felt a subtle sense that he was working for me.
As a Big Boss of the Shanghai Circle, Ju Bingyuan didn’t lead the life of debauchery and dissipation people imagined. Sometimes, he could be quite busy.
Every time he worked in his study until midnight, I was the poor Canary who had to keep him company. However, lately, the moment I think about how he’s earning money for me, I become incredibly enthusiastic and diligent, scurrying about to serve him.
Bringing tea, pouring water, adjusting the air conditioning-I focused on providing exquisite service.
The clock struck eleven, and Ju Bingyuan finally finished his day’s work. He let out a long breath and closed his laptop.
I brought him a cup of freshly brewed coffee, displaying the same earnestness as Mencius’s mother encouraging her son to study.
“President Ju, why don’t you work a little longer?”
Ju Bingyuan: “???”

I am the most low-maintenance Canary in the Shanghai Circle’s elite social scene.
On the surface, I have no interest in causing trouble; in reality, I am...
