Chapter 2
Chapter 2
Qi Niang’s daughter was named Liu’er; she was five years old.
Her son was named Zhuan’er; he was one.
I stood in the room, completely at a loss.
Liu’er’s breath was as thin as silk.
“Mother, please nurse Zhuan’er. He’s going to starve to death.”
I was nothing but a pile of bones wrapped in Qi Niang’s skin.
I didn’t even have bone marrow, so where was I supposed to get milk?
Seeing that the two children were on the verge of death, I had no choice but to head into the mountains to find wild beasts.
It was strange. Before, I couldn’t move half a step away from the graveyard, but now I could even enter the deep mountains.
However, Qi Niang’s body was weak. I couldn’t kill any beasts, and I was out of breath after just a few extra steps.
I revealed my true form, knocked out a nursing tigress, and borrowed a bamboo tube’s worth of milk from her.
I took it back and gave it to Zhuan’er.
Zhuan’er’s eyes had been dull and lifeless, but they lit up with startling intensity the moment he drank the milk.
He finished the entire tube in no time at all.
I threw some wild weeds into a pot and scraped together the few scattered grains of rice I could find at the bottom of the vat.
This wasn’t enough to eat; there needed to be meat.
I went out again and caught a few rats. After skinning them, I boiled them together with the weed porridge.
Once it was cooked, I brought the whole pot to Liu’er.
“Eat.”
Liu’er crawled over and began to eat ravenously.
She swallowed it, then threw it back up.
“Blegh.”
I asked, “You can’t eat it?”
Liu’er said through her tears, “I can eat it, Mother. I can eat it.”
She cried, she ate, and she vomited.
She cried while she ate while she vomited.
By the afternoon, she had both vomiting and diarrhea, and both children were burning up with a fever hotter than fire.
This was really asking too much of an old set of bones.
Chapter 4
It was quite strange.
As a Bone Demon, I was the most incompetent sort, belonging to the lowest class of undead in the Six Realms.
Logically speaking, I shouldn’t have been able to possess Qi Niang.
But now, not only had I possessed her, but I was also a perfect fit for this physical body, as if it were naturally willing to accept me.
In a short amount of time, I learned how to hold a baby, coax them to sleep, fetch water, and chop wood.
It was a very novel experience.
However, Liu’er and Zhuan’er couldn’t wait for me to learn slowly.
Since I had possessed Qi Niang’s body, I might as well raise her children properly for her.
After Liu’er threw up the meal I had prepared once again, I went next door in frustration.
The men of the neighboring household were away for work, leaving only Aunt Liu at home.
As soon as I entered the courtyard, her dog began to bark wildly.
“Who is it?” Aunt Liu came out.
The moment she saw me, her eyes rolled back and she fainted.
I waited patiently.
She slowly came to, but as soon as she saw me, her legs kicked out and she fainted again.
After this repeated several times, her psychological resilience grew much stronger.
She began throwing precious rice at me while retreating several steps at a time.
“Qi Niang, I wasn’t the one who killed you!”
“Every debt has its debtor; go find your husband!”
“I’m just a woman myself. My own man isn’t home, and I have a bunch of little ones to look after.”
“Don’t blame me for playing deaf and mute and not helping you. Who knew your husband was so cold-hearted that he would actually beat you to death?”
I picked up the rice grains one by one.
This auntie was really being reckless; rice this expensive would be a treasure in Qi Niang’s house.
Seeing that I wasn’t afraid but was instead approaching her while picking up the rice, her eyes rolled back as she prepared to faint again.
I quickly grabbed her by the waist and pinched her philtrum.
“Don’t faint.”
“First, teach me how to cook.”

The Bone Demon in the Village
I am a Bone Demon, trapped for countless years within that cold, desolate graveyard.
No one can see me, and no one can hear me. I have spent centuries in solitary silence.
Until one...
