Chapter 8
The day before moving into my new dorm, I went back to the hospital for a follow-up appointment.
For one, I wanted to thank Xu Yan. Secondly, I wanted to ask how to alleviate mild anxiety.
At the hospital entrance, I ran into the Study Department Head. When he saw me, he gave me a beaming smile. “Xianxian, what a coincidence. Are you here to see a doctor?”
He had been pursuing me for a while now. He was quite enthusiastic, and despite me turning him down several times, he remained persistent.
Meeting him now was a bit awkward.
“Yeah, I’m going to the psychology department.”
He looked surprised. “Has the academic pressure been getting to you lately? It’s okay, don’t be nervous. I’ll go in with you.”
Before I could say anything, he was already ushering me upstairs.
There weren’t many people in the psychology department today.
After greeting the nurse at the desk, he pulled me along and pushed open the door to Xu Yan’s consultation room.
“Professor Xu, I have a junior here to see you-”
His words cut off abruptly. Inside the bright room, Xu Yan sat leisurely in his office chair with his legs crossed. Duan Yan stood by the window, hands in his pockets, leaning back lazily.
Hearing the commotion, they both turned their heads at the same time.
With the light behind them, I couldn’t make out their expressions.
I just suddenly felt the hair on the back of my neck stand up, as if I were being stared down by predators.
The Study Department Head scratched his head. “Sorry, the nurse at the door said you didn’t have a patient, so I just…”
“Who are you to Yu Xian?”
Duan Yan interrupted him, his tone flat.
The Study Department Head gave a sheepish smile. “I’m pursuing her.”
As soon as the words left his mouth, the room fell silent.
Xu Yan folded his hands, letting out a low, mocking chuckle.
Duan Yan pulled his hands out of his pockets and straightened up.
The atmosphere in the room sank, becoming heavy and oppressive.
My face flushed. “You… don’t talk nonsense…”
The Study Department Head gave me a little push further into the room. “Anyway, I have things to do. I’ll head out first.”
*Bang.*
The door closed, leaving only the three of us in the room.
I hadn’t expected the two of them to know each other.
“Sorry, I… I’ll head out first-”
Duan Yan started walking toward me. I stumbled back a few steps, watching helplessly as he drew closer, his silhouette blocking out the light.
A faint, thin smile lurked in his dark, brooding eyes. He leaned in close, his hand reaching around my waist.
I heard a sharp *click*.
The door was locked.
In the next moment, I heard him sneer, “Xu Yan, this was your ‘brilliant’ idea. Give her a few days of rest, and she goes and finds herself some random man.”
Boom!
A roar of white noise flooded my brain.
My thoughts ground to a halt, and my face gradually turned deathly pale.
Xu Yan stood up and stepped between Duan Yan and me. He took off his wristwatch, his manner still refined and elegant as he spoke.
“Then, as an apology… you go first.”
