Chapter 4
The campus hospital was located on the south side of the school, not far from the main campus area.
Friday afternoons were peak hours for the hospital.
I registered for the psychiatry department and waited for my number to be called before heading inside.
The consultation room was quiet.
The glow of the setting sun streamed in through the window.
The only sound was the mechanical clicking of a mouse.
As I entered, my eyes fell upon a pale, slender hand resting lightly on a rounded mouse.
A wristwatch reflected a dazzling beam of light.
Squinting against the glare, I could just barely make out the blurred profile of his face and the superior silhouette of his broad shoulders and narrow waist.
This was our school’s famous psychology professor-Xu Yan.
Despite his young age, he possessed not only a brilliant academic mind but also a captivating physical appearance.
His entire being exuded an aura of cold, ascetic detachment.
“What seems to be the problem?” he asked softly.
My heart trembled.
His voice was so sultry it made my legs weak, pouring smoothly into my ears on this quiet evening.
I thought of that large hand pinning me against the floor-to-ceiling mirror, and the voice that had laughed while telling me to look up at the glass…
I was truly going crazy.
No matter who I saw, I suspected they were the man from my dreams.
“Student, are you listening to me?”
Xu Yan’s gentle gaze swept over the top of his glasses, pulling my thoughts back to reality.
I licked my dry lips and noticed he wasn’t looking down to write in my medical record. Instead, he had his arms crossed, waiting patiently for my explanation.
“I’m sorry, I’m listening.” I sat up straight like a child who had done something wrong.
It felt as if looking at him for even a second longer would be a profanation.
“Don’t be nervous. Just tell me what’s bothering you.”
His voice was mellow and pleasant, easily soothing my anxiety.
I nodded, hesitating. “I’ve been having nightmares lately. It’s been going on for a week straight…”
As I spoke, my face began to burn uncontrollably.
Xu Yan’s expression gradually turned serious. “Nightmares? Are there any specific details?”
I was tongue-tied. “They… they aren’t exactly nightmares… It’s… it’s just being… harassed…”
A flash of surprise flickered in Xu Yan’s cool eyes. He tapped his fountain pen against the desk with a steady, rhythmic click.
He seemed to have grown interested, leaning forward slightly. “I see… and what do you think is the cause?”
I clenched my hands nervously. “It might be… too much stress, leading to poor sleep quality.”
“Do you feel tired when you wake up?”
Xu Yan’s voice was slow and gentle, making me follow his train of thought subconsciously.
“Yes, Professor. I’m… very tired.”
He gave an understanding smile and looked down to jot something in my medical file.
“You’re just under too much pressure. Don’t be nervous. I’ll prescribe some medication for you. Take it on time; it will help you fall asleep early.”
I felt a wave of relief. “Thank you, Professor.”
I hoped that after taking the medicine, these embarrassing symptoms would finally find some relief.
