Chapter 10

I didn’t find a single opportunity to escape, even as we got into the car.

Xu Yan took the driver’s seat, while Duan Yan and I sat in the back.

Suddenly, my phone started ringing.

It was a call from my Counselor.

Duan Yan raised an eyebrow slightly.

I swallowed hard. “Let me answer it. If they can’t get a hold of me, you’ll be in trouble.”

“Put it on speaker.”

I did as Duan Yan said. A moment later, the Counselor’s voice came through:

“Xianxian, you can move out of the dorm early today. Go back and pack your things.”

The car, which had just started moving, slammed on the brakes. If Duan Yan hadn’t caught me, I would have flown headfirst into the front seat.

Xu Yan tapped the steering wheel lightly. “It seems Xianxian isn’t so stupid after all…”

His cold, phoenix-like eyes met my panicked face through the rearview mirror. The corners of his eyes quirked up, revealing a thin, mocking smile. “Duan Yan, what do you think?”

My heart skipped a beat. Leaning against Duan Yan, I whispered, “Please, let me go back.”

Duan Yan pondered for a moment and smiled. “It seems that might not be out of the question.”

They called Bailu over.

It was late autumn, and Bailu was wearing a knee-length trench coat when she came to help me out of the car.

This time, she had none of her usual gentleness. She gripped my wrist roughly and dragged me toward the dormitory building.

I couldn’t believe they were actually letting me go like this.

On the way, I questioned her. “Do you even know what you’re doing?”

Bailu didn’t say a word.

I felt like she might have gone crazy too. Suddenly, I wrenched my arm out of her grasp and ran toward the campus Police Booth.

“Help! Someone’s trying to kidnap me!”

The man inside the Police Booth was drinking water. Startled by my shout, he choked and sputtered before setting his cup down. “What’s going on, young lady? Slow down and tell me.”
