Chapter 8
Chapter 8
That night, fearing retaliation, I placed the Urn on my nightstand so I could keep a firm grip on his weakness.
In the middle of the night, I woke up from the cold. When I opened my eyes, I saw the Male Ghost sleeping right beside my pillow.
I stared at him with bleary, half-open eyes as my sleepiness slowly ebbed away.
His head was nestled into the soft pillow, his eyes tightly shut, sleeping deeply.
The warm light of the lamp spilled gently across his face. In his slumber, he didn’t look aggressive at all; he didn’t even look like a ghost anymore.
But he was indeed dead.
I thought back to that wedding photo in the master bedroom with the burned face.
I really wanted to know what had happened to him.
The night passed peacefully. In the morning, the Male Ghost woke up first. Upon seeing me, he suddenly rolled over and fell off the bed. His body was light as a feather, making no sound at all.
Actually, I had woken up the moment the blanket was tugged down.
I lay on my stomach, propping my chin in my hands, and watched him with casual amusement.
“Morning.”
With his hair a mess from sleep, the Male Ghost sat on the floor and glared at me fiercely. “I’m a ghost!”
“I know,” I said.
He pointed at the Urn on the nightstand, his tone turning eerie. “Wherever the ashes are, that’s where I’ll be. If you keep keeping it here, then I’ll get into your bed every single day!”
He thought this would scare me.
Instead, I nodded and clapped my hands in appreciation. “That’s wonderful! I’ll save a fortune on the AC bill this summer!”
Sleeping with him was like being pressed against a human-shaped block of ice. It was so chilly that even in the heat of summer, I could sleep soundly without turning on the air conditioning.
The Male Ghost hadn’t expected this kind of reaction. Frustrated and exasperated, he cursed me for being shameless.
I just acted like I didn’t hear him.
When it was time to change clothes, I turned around and glanced at the Urn behind me.
As soon as the Male Ghost saw me about to undress, he vanished into thin air again.
Sigh. How is he even more shy than I am?
