Before?

I froze for a moment, my heart tightening as if pulled by a silken thread. But it wasn’t pain; the sensation was like a sudden epiphany, and I could almost taste an unexpected hint of sweetness on my lips.

I had already guessed the answer, but I pretended to be confused to keep him talking. “What do you mean, ‘before’?”

“Qinglin High School.” The Male Ghost looked away, his voice calm and certain. “You went to high school at Qinglin, Class of 201X.”

I nodded. “Yes, but how do you even know that?”

He turned back toward me, looking like a frustrated teacher dealing with a hopeless student. “You used to be such a quiet, refined girl. How did you end up so… so fond of getting handsy with men!”

Thinking back to my image as a quiet, introverted honor student in high school, and then looking at how I was currently clinging to him in bed, skin-to-skin…

A flush of heat rose to my cheeks, and I let go of him.

“Why did you stop?” the Male Ghost asked.

My eyes brightened, and I reached out to grab him again. “Since you like it so much, then I-”

He scrambled away as if guarding against a thief, clutching a pillow as he rolled off the bed. In the blink of an eye, he had vanished.

I clutched my stomach, laughing hysterically.

But as I laughed, a sudden pang of bitterness hit my chest, and the tears began to fall.
