Chapter 12
This is the memory I least wish to recall in my entire life.
After our falling out, although I realized my attitude was wrong, I was still sulking and refused to say another word to my sister.
It wasn’t until the eve of graduation, when a classmate asked me, “What’s your dream for the future?”
I blurted out, “To earn lots of money and take my sister around the world.”
Only then did I wake up as if from a dream, realizing I had even forgotten my original intention.
Once I figured that out, I just couldn’t sit still any longer.
So, that evening, I quietly returned home, planning to sincerely apologize to my sister and then take her with me to school the next day for graduation photos.
When I reached the door, I happened to hear low voices coming from inside the house.
Liang Chuan asked, “You’ve checked? Are you sure there’s no mistake?”
Aunt Li replied, “Absolutely no mistake, it’s been two months already.”
Uncle Li sighed, “And we can’t even tell whose child it is-who are we supposed to hold responsible?”
Liang Chuan said coldly, “Buy medicine. Get rid of it.”
Aunt Li asked tentatively, “Then maybe we shouldn’t go tonight?”
Liang Chuan replied, “No, we can’t. Boss Zhang is still waiting. This crazy girl takes so much time and effort to shoot ads-if she doesn’t pay a price, what business would want to work with her long term?”
My mind went completely blank in that instant. Without thinking, I rushed inside. “What are you talking about? Where are you taking my sister? What are you doing?”
Aunt Li hurried over and grabbed me. “Xiao Jie, why are you back?”
Liang Chuan glanced at his watch impatiently and said, “Handle her. I’m taking Bai Xue.”
With that, he headed straight for my sister’s room.
I don’t know where I found the strength, but I broke free from Aunt Li, grabbed the broom by the door, and rushed into the room, driving Liang Chuan out.
My sister was wearing only a thin gauze dress, her hands tied and her mouth gagged.
I untied her, fixed her clothes, and hugged her tightly, my heart aching. “Why didn’t you resist? Why didn’t you tell me? Do you really want to do such a thing?”
Bai Xue mumbled, but her words still reached my ears clearly: “I want to.”
I shoved her away, staring at the girl before me in disbelief.
Liang Chuan re-entered from outside, looking down at me, his true nature fully revealed. “Bai Jie, you heard her yourself. I didn’t force her-she did it willingly.”
“I don’t think she’s stupid at all. Earning money by lying down-why would anyone refuse such a good thing, right?”
I was shaking all over with anger, wanting to call the police.
Liang Chuan saw right through me, and said calmly, “If you call the police, what will you say? Consenting adults-mutual desire. Nothing illegal.”
I glared at him with red eyes. “She doesn’t understand anything! You must have tricked her!”
“Don’t wrong me.” Liang Chuan pulled out his phone, opened a video, and showed it to me. “Tsk tsk, just look.”
On the screen, my sister lay on the bed like a broken puppet.
Video after video flashed before my eyes.
I saw the sister I cherished and loved, kneeling in front of men with no dignity, wagging her tail and begging, and my heart was torn apart.
It turned out that every time Liang Chuan claimed to be taking Bai Xue out to see a doctor, he was actually sending her to entertain clients, and even secretly recorded videos.
I clearly had so many chances to notice something was wrong, but I just watched as my sister stepped into hell.
“Since you know now, there’s no need to cover up anymore. Focus on your studies and don’t meddle-it’s best for everyone. Otherwise, if I’m ever in a bad mood, maybe I’ll go get a computer fixed or something… your sister will become famous for real.”
With that, Liang Chuan swaggered off, letting me know he would reschedule with the client and come back for Bai Xue.
I curled up in the corner with my head in my arms, feeling as if the sky had collapsed.
Because I realized, aside from seething with hatred, there was nothing I could do.
My sister came over with a tin box full of candies, squatted next to me, and tried to please me. “Sister, have some candy.”
“Are you really so stupid that you don’t even have a shred of human dignity left?”
I shouted, knocking the tin box to the ground. The red and green candies scattered everywhere.
My sister hurried to pick them up, one by one.
Watching her thin back, my heart ached so much I could hardly breathe.
If I’d known it would end up like this, would it have been a better ending if I’d killed my sister back then?

I held my little sister’s hand as we crossed the street.
A police officer stopped me and asked, “Whose hand are you holding?”
I glanced at the empty space behind me...
