Chapter 1
My name is Bai Jie, and today is my university graduation day.
But last night, I personally ended my sister’s life. When morning came, I held one of her hands and went to the school together.
Of course, I was stopped by the police halfway there, and now I’m sitting in this cold Interrogation Room.
Across from me sit two police officers in uniform. The older one is called Officer Wu; he’s the one mostly talking to me. The younger one is Officer Chen, mainly in charge of taking notes.
Officer Wu got straight to the point: “Why did you kill her?”
I didn’t plan to hide anything, but now isn’t the time to talk.
Today, I should have been like any ordinary university student, surrounded by joy and excitement, receiving flowers and applause.
Now, I’m all alone, cold and deserted. Why not play a game with the police?
“That’s for you to find out.” I smiled at them.
I was locked up in the Detention Center, where the lights are on twenty-four hours a day. I slept especially well.
Two weeks later, the police came to see me again.
Wearing Handcuffs, I was brought into the Interrogation Room. The same two officers sat across from me as last time.
But this time, Officer Wu sat silently to the side, unusually quiet. Instead, Officer Chen looked furious, staring at me as if I were a demon.
With a dark face, he said to me, “Bai Jie, just confess. We have both Witness Testimony and Physical Evidence. You can’t escape.”
It’s really funny. When did I ever think of escaping?
Sooner or later I would confess; it’s just a question of how much, depending on whether you can give me a satisfactory answer.
“According to the Forensic Doctor’s examination, your sister died from excessive blood loss. Her Achilles tendons were completely severed, and both her hands were mutilated. Did you do all this?”
I nodded.
“Why?” Officer Wu interjected at the right moment.
I stayed silent and didn’t answer.
Officer Chen slammed the table in anger and cursed, “How could there be such a vicious sister as you in this world?!”
I stared at him in a daze. He’s wrong.
In this world, no one loves my sister more than I do.
