Chapter 8
Chapter 8
Guan Yi followed me upstairs, silently helping me change the bedding.
He smoothed out every single wrinkle on the sheets, tidying the square bed until it looked like a delicate piece of sponge cake. It looked so perfect I felt bad even thinking about lying on it.
I understood what he was doing; he wanted me to let him stay.
Was being someone’s little ghost husband in a Yin Marriage really that great? Was he actually happier doing this than being a living person up there?
Just what kind of hardships had he gone through?
My mind was swirling with questions. I took my eyes off him for just a moment, and when I turned back, I was startled to find him taking off his clothes.
I gasped. “Hey, hey! What are you doing? Put those back on!”
He remained perfectly calm. “It’s time for bed.”
“This is my-my room… Go sleep outside!”
Not only was he acting like he owned the place, but he even had the nerve to remind me, “We were supposed to have our wedding night just now anyway.”
He wasn’t wrong.
But then again, he was the one who went and coughed up a bed full of blood, leading me to discover that his natural lifespan hadn’t actually ended yet.
Being with a living person was a major taboo!
I had spent nearly three years all alone down here, and I had never dealt with a situation like this before.
When he didn’t say anything else, I turned around.
To my surprise, he had already walked up behind me without making a sound.
My temple brushed against his lips.
That unfamiliar sensation left a trace on my skin like a dragonfly skimming the water, leaving me stunned.
Guan Yi was a ghost who wasn’t fully dead, so he still possessed a bit of body heat.
We all have specific things that can trigger an emotional response.
It’s like something that died long ago suddenly coming back to life, stepping out from the depths of your memory to stand right before you.
It might be a scent, a taste, a familiar phrase, or-like right now-the warmth of once being human.
My nose prickled with a sudden ache, and I threw my arms around Guan Yi.
