Chapter 5
Chapter 5
A warm, rough hand suddenly grabbed me.
I was scared out of my wits, praying that Grandpa wouldn’t accidentally squash me into a pulp with one slap.
His palm opened, exposing me-a tiny moth-to the light.
Grandpa’s clouded eyes leaned in close. “Ruo Ruo?”
Grandpa had dementia; his eyes were failing and his hearing was gone, yet he could recognize me at a single glance.
My parents stopped scolding him and walked away with heavy sighs.
I unfolded the wings I’d used to cover my head and gave them a couple of shakes in response. It’s me, Grandpa.
I had always known that Grandpa could sense me.
Three years ago, I died in an accident far from home. My body was never found, and my family lost all contact with me from that day on.
The first time I came home, I had transformed into a little sparrow. I perched on Grandpa’s shoulder and chirped a long, frantic explanation. Afterward, he told my parents they didn’t need to wait for me anymore-I was already dead.
From then on, my parents began burning spirit money for me every day, hoping I would have a better life in the underworld.
This time, I had returned because of Guan Yi.
I looked up toward the lightbulb to find him.
He had already left the bulb and was fluttering toward a coffin in the mourning hall. He landed right on top of it.
Grandpa let out a couple of soft chuckles and said with relief, “My precious granddaughter has brought her grandson-in-law home for a visit.”
“…”
This little moth was speechless.
That was Guan Yi’s coffin; he had recognized it himself.
I flew to the gap where the coffin lid met the base, signaling Grandpa to open it.
Grandpa actually understood. Thinking I wanted to see my Groom, he huffed and puffed as he slid the heavy lid aside for me.
Then, I saw Guan Yi’s true form.
He was dressed in black burial robes. His under-eyes and lips were slightly blue, but his skin was exceptionally pale.
He looked exactly like what he was: a corpse devoid of all consciousness.
At that moment, the moth that was Guan Yi flew onto the corpse’s wrist.
“Shoo, shoo! No touching!”
Grandpa waved his hand to drive him away, but the moth simply crawled underneath the wrist.
Grandpa had no choice but to pinch the corpse’s wrist to find him. Then, he suddenly froze.
It was as if his dementia had vanished in an instant. His eyes grew bright, his expression became solemn, and even his speech became miraculously clear. “Why does the grandson-in-law still have a pulse?”
