Chapter 1
Chapter 1
I have been dead for three years.
Life in the Underworld is actually quite good, aside from the lack of sunlight and Wi-Fi.
My parents burn huge sums of money for me every day, which goes straight into my account at the Heaven and Earth Bank.
Since my family runs a funeral services business, the one thing we never lack is joss paper.
As a result, I’ve become a filthy rich little heiress in the Netherworld. Money makes the world go ’round-or in this case, it makes the ghosts turn the millstone-and since my life here is even more pleasant than when I was alive, I’ve never been in a hurry to reincarnate.
But today, trouble found me.
“Qu Ziruo! Go to Clumsy Bird Station and pick up your delivery! It’s a big one today!”
I was jolted awake by a shout from downstairs. Pushing open the window, I looked down.
A black tin tricycle was parked below. The ghost shouting for me was Zhao Zhiguo, a courier for Against-the-Wind Express.
He had been a delivery man when he was alive, and he ended up doing the same job in the Underworld after he died.
Seeing me poke my head out, Zhao Zhiguo considered his mission accomplished. He hopped onto his little tricycle and puttered away to his next delivery.
I felt like the smile he gave me before leaving was a bit strange, as if he were waiting to see a good show.
What kind of delivery was too big for his little tricycle that I had to go pick it up myself?
I changed out of my pajamas, washed my face, and headed out.
Deliveries in the Underworld are offerings sent by relatives from the world above, delivered to us through a logistics system.
There weren’t many ghosts picking up packages today. As soon as the station owner, Aunt Zhuang, saw me, she broke into a knowing, motherly grin, as if she had been waiting for me for a long time.
“Xiao Qu, your parents really are good to you. They never stop sending food and drinks. Look at what they’ve sent you today.”
She pointed toward a row of chairs against the wall.
One look and I was dumbfounded, my jaw nearly hitting the floor.
My parents… how could they have mailed me a man?!
I shot a quick glance at him and immediately lowered my head.
“Aunt Zhuang,” I hissed through gritted teeth, “are you sure there’s no mistake? That’s a man!”
Aunt Zhuang continued cracking melon seeds as she double-checked the tracking number.
“No mistake. He’s yours.”
I stole another peek at the man-no, the male ghost.
This time, he saw me too.
He was a very handsome ghost.
However, he looked a bit sickly and frail; he had likely died quite recently.
Stunned by his incredible looks, my brain momentarily short-circuited. I completely forgot that I had the right to refuse a delivery. With a trembling hand, I signed my name and led him home.
