Chapter 23
Chapter 23
When I woke up the next morning, my eyes were as swollen as walnuts, and I was clinging to Ji Cheng like an octopus.
Memories of the previous night flooded back, causing my brain to short-circuit. I tried to roll over and make a run for it, but he reached out and pinned me down.
“Where are you going?”
I buried myself under the duvet, letting out a series of muffled, incoherent grunts.
He, on the other hand, acted as if nothing had happened.
“Are you shy?
“What’s there to be embarrassed about?”
He dug me out from under the covers, his face beaming with a bright smile.
“From now on, cry when you want to cry, and laugh when you want to laugh! If anyone tries to stop you, I’ll give them a beating for you!”
I shook my head frantically.
He arched an eyebrow. “Didn’t you understand?”
I looked at him, completely dazed.
“Nie Lan, I’m confessing my feelings to you…”
“Huh?”
He looked at me with a playful grin. “Will you be my little girl for the rest of our lives?”
My heart hammered so hard against my ribs I thought it might burst through the window and fly into the stratosphere.
I was utterly stunned.
He stood up and pulled back the curtains. Sunlight poured into the room, instantly dispelling every trace of darkness.
Bathed in the dancing light, he reached his hand out to me.
“Oh, right. I forgot to say it yesterday, but your mom is seriously cool!
“Once we’re back in the country, let’s go visit her together!”
My head was spinning.
I couldn’t help but think: how can this guy be so unpredictable? He just confessed, and he’s already thinking about meeting the parents?
However, warmth flowed steadily from his palm into mine.
Dazed and choking back a sob, I found myself unable to refuse.
I could only whisper, “…Okay.”
He pulled me up happily and gathered me into a tight embrace.
At that moment, I made a devout wish to the gods in the depths of my heart.
I hoped that the time I spent with him would last a little longer, and then a little longer still.
Even if this was just a dream,
I hoped I would never have to wake up.

Seeing the Starlight
On the eve of our wedding, I discovered a spreadsheet on Ji Qing’s computer.
It was filled with information about every girl he had ever dated.
In my column, it read:...
