In 2009, I married Shan Jing. Not long after the wedding, I took Shan Jing hiking so my father could have a look at her. Of course, Shan Jing didn’t know the real reason.
In the letters that followed, my father said that although he could only see from afar, he could tell that Shan Jing was a gentle person, just like my mother.
He told me he was very pleased with his daughter-in-law, and so happy that he even had an extra bowl of noodles.
I looked at that letter and laughed, laughed until tears streamed down my face, then lit my lighter and burned it.
