Chapter 7

There were so many little moments like that.

For instance, back when I was just a tiny tot.

I didn’t have much pocket money, but I had a major sweet tooth. I used to stand outside the courtyard of his house, silent as a ghost, staring blankly at Jin Chuan as he ate snacks.

He would look at me with utter disdain, yet he’d toss pack after pack of jelly drinks through the iron fence. Little me would scoop them up and bolt, as if I’d found buried treasure.

We never spoke a word the entire time. Yet, I still remember how incredibly sweet those jelly drinks were.

There was grape, and there was orange.

My life felt so complete back then.

Even the memory of the crabapple blossoms at the end of the alley that night remains vivid.

Why am I just an extra? Why am I just cannon fodder?

Sigh, it’s so depressing.

I don’t like the System. The System tells me that Jin Chuan will eventually have his own Female Lead.

It makes me feel like I’ve already become ‘the other woman,’ even though I haven’t actually done anything.

But that girl is still just a puff of air that hasn’t even appeared yet.

I don’t know her, and Jin Chuan doesn’t know her either.

Is destiny really an immutable law that must be fulfilled?

I’m not ready to give up.

I asked this damn System:

“If you can’t give me a proper identity, can’t you just let me try to ‘fetch the moon from the water’ myself?

“I promise, even if I manage to catch it, I’ll just have a little taste and then I’ll get lost on my own.”

The System was speechless.

“First, you will definitely fail.

“Second, any incorrect memories will be automatically erased.

“You’re welcome to try.”
