Chapter 60
The other two patients pointed at the photo, analyzing something.
“This child is really pretty! Look how delicate her features are.”
“Yeah, it’s been so long since I’ve seen such a cute little girl.”
“Her eyes are so big, like grapes-so bright and lively…”
Jiang Li ignored their conversation and flipped the photo over.
There were new rules on the back.
[Madhouse Night Rules]
[1. Before night falls, you must send away all guests in the ward! Otherwise, something terrible will happen.]
[2. If you hear a stray cat crying at night, don’t respond. That’s normal – the hospital has taken in many unwanted stray cats.]
[3. The security guard on night patrol will walk the corridor on the hour. Please do not wander in the corridor.]
[4. There is a Nighttime Snack Shop downstairs in the hospital, open from 00:00 to 07:00. All kinds of visitors are welcome.]
[5. If you get lost in the dark, look for the light of the Nighttime Snack Shop. It will guide you.]
[6. Kittens do not grow pig organs. Please remember this.]
[7. Doctors and nurses are off duty and resting. They will not visit during the night.]
[8. Do not look in the mirror at night. This is a warning. If you violate this rule, fall asleep within five minutes. Relax – you’ll forget this terrifying experience by morning.]
After reading, Jiang Li looked serious.
She paid special attention to the first rule:
[Before night falls, you must send away all guests in the ward! Otherwise, something terrible will happen.]
It was already getting darker outside.
This had to be resolved quickly!
The most important thing now was to figure out who in the ward was a host, and who was a guest.
It was obvious that Jiang Li, the old man, and the middle-aged woman all had their own chest badges.
Therefore, the three of them were most likely the hosts of the ward.
Besides the three of them, there were also the Red Infant, the little girl, and the fake doll in the middle-aged woman’s arms, which she treated as real.
If Jiang Li tried to drive out the Red Infant, she would definitely anger him.
The little girl had been hiding by the toilet door, staring gloomily at Jiang Li.
Asking the little girl to leave would also be tricky.
But the hardest of all was the middle-aged woman’s fake doll.
She treasured her “son” so much, she would never agree to send him away.
What should she do…
Jiang Li felt a headache coming on.
She glanced around the room, trying to find a solution.
Unintentionally, Jiang Li made eye contact with the fake doll in the middle-aged woman’s arms.
The fake doll’s lips curled up in a suppressed yet eerie smile.
Its eyeballs rolled halfway around, finally settling on Jiang Li and stopping.
Jiang Li looked away and thought for a while.
Three seconds later, she looked at the little girl by the toilet.
“Little sister, I promise to help you find your mother,” Jiang Li said with a gentle smile.
After all, she needed to look for Doctor Lin Yi anyway.
Saying this was just playing along, and it would also earn a favor from the little girl.
“…Really?” The little girl’s expression was both surprised and delighted.
She slowly stepped out from the toilet door in her little shoes.
Jiang Li nodded. “Mm. But before that, my baby wants to play a game of hide-and-seek, and needs you to organize it.”
Red Infant was stunned for a moment and scratched his little nose.
Was the baby talking about him?
Did he ever say he wanted to play a game?
Red Infant, the straightforward boy, was hesitating – should he explain that he didn’t mean it that way?
Before he could decide, Jiang Li suddenly tossed him three steaming pig Hearts.
Red Infant’s Eyes lit up!
He immediately hugged the Hearts and started gobbling them up in big bites.
“Alright. I’ll organize hide-and-seek,” the Little Girl nodded solemnly.
Jiang Li smiled. “I want everyone in the room to participate.”
Upon hearing this, the Little Girl turned and went into the Toilet.
Jiang Li’s heart tightened.
Did she say something wrong?
Just as Jiang Li was feeling puzzled, the Little Girl came out of the Toilet.
She was dragging a Nurse in a tattered Pink Nurse Uniform, her face covered with nothing but soft, rotten flesh.
Jiang Li’s heart skipped a beat.
She almost forgot – she had never actually been inside the Toilet of the ward!
So, the “guest” in the Toilet had not been found by her yet.
“Everyone’s here. Any other requests?” The Little Girl pulled out the Nurse and looked at Jiang Li.
“Yes.”
Jiang Li stretched out her hand, pointing at the Fake Doll in the arms of the woman:
“I want him to be the ‘ghost.’ The game area is anywhere outside Ward 402.”
As soon as Jiang Li finished speaking, she saw the woman’s expression change.
The woman carefully shielded her ‘son,’ resentment heavy in her eyes.
She opened her mouth, just about to refuse Jiang Li’s suggestion, but the Little Girl shot her a glare and she instantly fell silent.
Jiang Li curled her lips in a faint smile.
She had already expected this.
This woman hadn’t dared refuse even when the Little Girl drew her into a ghost just now; she must be afraid of the Little Girl.
And the Little Girl must be much more familiar with both the hosts and the guests of the ward than newcomers like Jiang Li and Red Infant!
So, it was only fitting for the Little Girl to organize this game.
Soon, everyone was ready.
The Fake Doll was placed alone in the middle of the corridor.
The others scattered, each searching for a place to hide.
Jiang Li guessed that the Fake Doll could only trigger its Aberration as a “guest who hadn’t been sent away” inside the ward.
So once it left, the Fake Doll was just a lifeless, unmoving Doll.
This game of hide-and-seek couldn’t end unless someone chose to end it.
Jiang Li saw the others either heading up to the Rooftop or running down the Stairs. Only then did she leisurely walk back to the door of Ward 402.
She tossed another Heart to Red Infant on her shoulder, telling him to go to another room and find any empty bed to sleep in.
Red Infant hugged the Heart and happily scampered off.
Jiang Li watched as Red Infant kicked open the door and strode into Ward 409.
Meanwhile, Jiang Li tore off the “402” plate from the iron door and swapped it with the one from Room 401.
Then she calmly pushed open the door and returned to her original ward.
Now, not only had she sent away the guests, but the host as well.
Jiang Li lay down on bed 2, pulled the blanket over herself, and fell asleep.
It wasn’t until late at night, when a series of piercing Cat’s Cry woke her up.
Jiang Li turned on the light and glanced at the Wall Clock on the wall – it was now 1:45 a.m.
She thought for a moment, got up from the bed, and pushed open the door to step outside…
