Chapter 54
Jiang Li’s back stiffened, her expression blank for a moment.
She glanced at her two fellow patients.
The old man, the middle-aged woman, and even the nurse-all three still had blood gushing from their waists.
The nurse was still holding those two knives.
Jiang Li quickly looked away from them.
She turned to Doctor Hao. “N-nothing. Maybe I didn’t sleep well.”
For the first time, Jiang Li felt truly out of control.
Maybe, she really was mentally ill.
Doctor Hao seemed quite satisfied with her reaction.
He hummed in acknowledgment, giving a slight nod.
Then, he set a white bottle of Pills on Jiang Li’s bedside table.
“Three Pills in the morning, afternoon, and evening, taken after meals. They can help ease your symptoms,” Doctor Hao instructed.
Jiang Li kept her head down and nodded obediently.
But it was obvious that she seemed in much worse shape now than a few minutes ago.
While Jiang Li had her head lowered, the old man craned his neck from below, tilting his head to look at Jiang Li’s expression.
He adjusted his glasses. “Patient ID 1037, why do you seem unhappy?”
The middle-aged woman poked Jiang Li on the shoulder:
“Don’t be upset. You just took the blame for us. I’ll have my son call you godmother-will that make up for it?”
Jiang Li’s mouth twitched.
Crazy…
They’re all crazy!
Jiang Li thought for a few seconds, then looked up again, her gaze now calm.
She recalled the first rule in the Patient’s Rules:
[At all costs, find Doctor Lin Yi. Doctor Lin knows how to get out of here.]
No matter what, the priority was to find Doctor Lin Yi!
She had to escape.
“Doctor Hao, do you know Doctor Lin Yi? Where are they now?”
Jiang Li looked straight at Hao Huairen.
At that moment, Hao Huairen had walked to the doorway and was posting Jiang Li’s Score Sheet on the wall.
Jiang Li glanced at the sheet; under her health status, it read 59 points.
Evaluation: Clear consciousness, but confused mind.
Upon hearing Jiang Li’s question, Hao Huairen hesitated for a moment.
He then pulled out a Fountain Pen, uncapped it, and crossed out “59,” changing it to “50” on Jiang Li’s Score Sheet.
Capping his pen, Hao Huairen slipped it back into his chest pocket.
“I do know Doctor Lin. Doctor Lin died three years ago. Now she’s in a coffin.”
“And,” Hao Huairen turned and glared at Jiang Li, his tone harsh, “you can’t burn paper in the hospital. Don’t even think about it!”
Doctor Lin Yi… is dead?
So the S Rank condition, ‘let Doctor Lin Yi take you out,’ actually means letting the deceased Doctor Lin Yi take her out?
Or, more likely, Doctor Hao is lying.
Jiang Li looked up at him.
But… why would he lie?
Jiang Li discreetly glanced at Doctor Hao’s name badge and secretly memorized his office location.
This Doctor Hao was definitely suspicious!
“All right, it’s almost mealtime. Go eat at the Cafeteria, and remember to take your Pills when you get back.”
Hao Huairen checked his watch and reminded Jiang Li.
He patted Jiang Li’s shoulder twice in a gesture of comfort, then turned and left the ward.
Watching Hao Huairen’s back, Jiang Li couldn’t shake the feeling that the back of that white coat was bulging, as if something was hidden inside.
With Hao Huairen’s movements, the white coat shifted slightly.
Jiang Li could now clearly see what was inside-
That pattern… it was a black snake!
Its long tail was tucked right behind Doctor Hao’s coat!
Jiang Li was stunned for a moment.
So, Doctor Hao had been corrupted.
But what was the Pollution Source?
Had Doctor Hao… gone somewhere he shouldn’t have?
If she could track Doctor Hao’s whereabouts, could she maybe find the Pollution Source through him?
Jiang Li stared at Doctor Hao’s tail, an idea taking shape in her mind.
“Hey, Patient ID 1037!” The nurse waved her hand in front of Jiang Li’s eyes. “I’m talking to you!”
Jiang Li withdrew her gaze and looked at the nurse. “Oh. What did you just say?”
She smiled gently, trying to sound as friendly as possible.
Although this nurse seemed a bit off, Jiang Li still had to comply with the rules and couldn’t risk angering the nurse.
The nurse curled her lips, clearly displeased with Jiang Li’s behavior.
“I said, it’s your first time at the hospital, so I’ll take you to the Cafeteria for a meal!”
Before Jiang Li could say anything, the nurse grabbed her and dragged her out.
As she was led away, Jiang Li glanced back at her two fellow patients.
At this moment, both of them were lying flat on the ground, hands folded on their abdomens, Eyes wide open.
Blood was still gushing from their kidneys.
“It’s mealtime. Are you hungry?” The Old Man adjusted his glasses and asked the Middle-aged Woman seriously.
The Middle-aged Woman shook her head. “Not hungry. Just feel a bit weak.”
“Me too.”
Two seconds of silence.
The Old Man continued, “Then… should we take some Pills?”
“I think that’s fine.”
So the two patients took the Pills the nurse had just handed out and popped them into their mouths.
Jiang Li, being pulled by the nurse, was quickly dragged out of Ward 402.
The two Aberrations also disappeared from Jiang Li’s sight.
This time, the gloomy corridor was filled with more patients.
Everyone was coming out of their rooms, heading toward the Stairs.
The nurse pulling Jiang Li fought against the stream of people heading down, busily picking up money on the Stairs.
“Wow, so much money! How come no one wants all this money that’s been dropped?” the nurse exclaimed in delight.
Jiang Li looked down-it was Spirit Money.
Patient’s Rules, Article Three:
[You must not pick up the Spirit Money on the Stairs; it’s not for you.]
Hmm, it’s confirmed, it’s for the nurses.
The nurse straightened up, clutching a big handful of Spirit Money, grinning from ear to ear.
Only now did Jiang Li realize how different the nurse was from a normal person.
Whenever the nurse smiled, blood would keep oozing from the area around her belly.
“I’m happy today, so I’ll take you out for a good meal! Come on!”
The nurse enthusiastically linked arms with Jiang Li, dragging her to the Staff Elevator on the third floor.
This nurse was oddly passionate.
“What do you want to eat today? My treat! I’ll take you to the Staff Cafeteria.” The nurse smiled at Jiang Li.
Being held by such an Aberration always felt unsettling.
Jiang Li kept her polite smile and calmly pulled her arm back. “Thank you. Uh… actually, I’m fine with going to the Patient’s Cafeteria.”
Jiang Li always felt that this Aberration’s dining place was probably not a good place to go.
Something bad might happen there.
Who knew if what they ate was food-or if she herself would be eaten?
In the corridor on the third floor, they passed two people in “dark red” hospital gowns.
The two glanced at Jiang Li, covering their mouths and whispering quietly.
“What is she doing, staring at a blank wall all by herself?”
“No idea, I think she’s from the fourth floor.”
“I heard everyone on the fourth floor is crazy, let’s hurry up and go…”
Jiang Li heard all this but showed no reaction.
Could it be that Jiang Li herself was quite contaminated?
But she hadn’t come into contact with any Pollution Source.
If not, then where did the contamination come from?
Jiang Li couldn’t figure it out, so she decided to put the thought aside for now.
She only made up her mind to drink hot Honey Water as soon as she returned to Ward 402.
“Ding-dong.”
The elevator doors slowly opened.
The things inside gradually came into Jiang Li’s view.
Jiang Li’s heart skipped a beat!
In the cramped Space of the elevator, it was packed full of Aberrations…
