Chapter 3
Chapter 3
Wen Yunqiao really had changed.
She spoke less than a tenth of what she used to. She had become gentle and quiet.
As I sat to the side sharpening my blade, she only smiled and ordered her daughter to be brought out for me to see.
Wen Yunqiao’s daughter was named Xie Shu.
She was a tiny, adorable thing, as fair as jade and snow.
She had only just learned to speak.
Once she was carried in, she stumbled toward Wen Yunqiao and gave a clumsy bow. “Daughter greets Mother.”
I watched with a cold gaze.
The love in Wen Yunqiao’s eyes welled up like a thick mist.
She struggled slightly as she picked Xie Shu up, then gestured for me to come over.
“This is your Aunt Ah Fu. Greet her, quickly.”
“In the future, when Mother is no longer here, you must listen to her. Do you understand?”
Xie Shu called out to me in a very sweet voice, “Aunt Ah Fu.”
Wen Yunqiao’s lips curved into a soft smile.
“Go on, let Aunt Ah Fu hold you.”
I frowned and took two steps back.
“Stay away from me. I hate children.”
Especially since she was also Xie Yan’s daughter.
Xie Shu was frightened by the coldness in my eyes. She stood there, dazed and foolish.
…The way she looked when she was stunned was actually quite similar to Wen Yunqiao, I thought.
Wen Yunqiao didn’t force the issue.
She gave a bitter smile and was about to say something when the door was violently kicked open.
A bitter wind, carrying particles of snow, swirled inside.
It was accompanied by the furious voice of a man: “Wen Yunqiao, you poisonous woman!”
Xie Shu turned pale with fright and instinctively hid behind me.
As the cold wind blew in, Wen Yunqiao began to cough again.
The man’s boots crunched against the floor as he walked. He remained completely indifferent to her coughing, which grew more violent with every breath.
His voice was thick with mockery.
“Are you playing the victim again? Wen Yunqiao, every time you hurt someone, you pretend to be sick. How many times are you going to pull this same trick…”
Wrapped in a chill that permeated the room, he walked up to Wen Yunqiao. Just as he reached out to grab her chin, his expression suddenly shifted.
In the next instant, a thin, sharp knife flew through the air, slicing off half of his fingertip.
It exposed the white bone beneath.
Xie Yan clutched his wound and spun around. “Who is it?!”
“Stay away from Wen Yunqiao.”
I stood up. “Can’t you hear her coughing?”
Xie Yan looked at my face, and his voice suddenly failed him.
He frowned.
“You are…”
I let out a cold snort. “If I had known this day would come, I should have just killed you back then.”
“Get this straight: if Wen Yunqiao hadn’t pleaded for your life, the grass on your grave would be several feet high by now.”
Xie Yan’s expression changed drastically. “Jiang Fu!”
