Chapter 9

The nine people split into three teams.

Ye Tiancheng led the way with Bai Cancan and me.

Bai Cancan shielded me in front, whispering, “If anything goes wrong, don’t worry about us-just run and save yourself. Your life comes first.”

At times like this, I didn’t bother pretending to be polite and nodded directly, “Okay. You two be careful too.”

Once we were ready, the three of us headed down the small path.

It was now 9:50. Previously, Ye Tiancheng encountered the Eggbeater at 16:02, but we didn’t know the exact interval at which it appeared. You Zile also said he ran into it at 15:30.

“Let’s assume the interval is every 30 minutes for now,” Ye Tiancheng took out his phone and checked the time with us. “If nothing happens by 10:10, we’ll set off and follow the route we discussed earlier.”

We nodded and hid in a corner.

Soon, it was 10 o’clock. A faint rumbling came from underground.

Then, the ground split open with a huge crack, and the massive Eggbeater emerged.

The Eggbeater patrolled from one end of the street to the other.

Ten minutes later, having found no prey, the Eggbeater returned underground, and the street was calm again.

“Go!”

Ye Tiancheng dashed out first, and we followed closely behind.

We made it safely across Pastry Street, and the nine of us regrouped in front of a cafe. Everyone seemed unharmed.

Liu Yating laughed, “Impressive! I thought we’d lose one or two people this round, but everyone’s come through without a scratch.”

Her casual tone about human life made me uncomfortable. It was clear Liu Yating intended to use low-level players as shields to secure her own success.

Ye Tiancheng didn’t respond to her, instead pulling out the map. Just as he was about to speak, the door of the cafe swung open from inside.

A little girl dressed in a riot of colors smiled brightly at us, “Welcome to the Sugar Plum Cafe~”

I gasped as I looked at her-this was the Sugar Plum Fairy who had sprayed Poisonous Syrup at me before!

Don’t be fooled by her cute appearance; she was ruthless. There were still two holes in my jeans from where her syrup had landed!

And I was wearing denim!

Everyone had clearly had a taste of her hospitality; their faces were grim.

The Sugar Plum Fairy acted as if she hadn’t noticed, waving her Candy Magic Wand and shaking it at us, “Would the guests like to come in for coffee, or try my special syrup?”

A blatant threat!

But we had no right to refuse.

Ye Tiancheng and Liu Yating exchanged a quick glance and walked in first.

The others followed one after another.

Once all nine of us were inside, the door of the cafe slammed shut behind us.
