Chapter 3
Ye Tiancheng opened the door just a crack and carefully looked outside. He turned back to us and said, “I’ll go out first. Wait five minutes before you come out, and we’ll meet at the corner we passed earlier.”
I whispered, “Be careful.”
Ye Tiancheng nodded, opened the door, and left.
We nervously watched through the gap in the door as Ye Tiancheng jogged across the street, turned a corner, and disappeared from sight.
After waiting a little longer and seeing nothing unusual outside, the two of us finally opened the door and stepped out.
Before leaving, Bai Cancan broke off a piece from the corner of the house to mark our spot.
