Chapter 11
After hiding the entrance to the basement with boxes and paper bags, we returned to the kitchen to continue searching.
During this time, Liu Yating came by once, tentatively asking if we had found a place to stay for the night.
Ye Tiancheng replied indifferently, saying that we had found one and not to worry, we wouldn’t die.
Liu Yating didn’t get what she wanted, but she didn’t get angry either, just turned and left.
Soon it was 6 p.m., and we hid in the basement, waiting for nightfall.
Ye Tiancheng sat near the entrance and said, “You guys sleep first, we’ll switch shifts in the second half of the night.”
I didn’t stand on ceremony. After such a mentally exhausting and tense day, I leaned against the wall and quickly fell asleep.
I thought we’d get through the night safely, but trouble came in the middle of the night.
A shrill scream pierced the silence of the night.
I immediately opened my eyes. “Something happened?”
Ye Tiancheng pointed upward. “Someone was running around just now. Judging by the sound, it was probably You Zile.”
Bai Cancan’s eyes lit up. She walked to the exit and gently pushed open a crack. We huddled together and looked outside.
We saw You Zile desperately running ahead, with a coffee grinder chasing him, its sharp blades buzzing as they spun.
“Don’t come any closer!” You Zile’s face was streaked with tears and snot as he shouted, “Sister Liu, help me! Help me!”
No one came out to help him.
You Zile ran around the kitchen several times. Just as he was about to be caught, he pulled out a Pendant and shouted, “Switch, Li Tong!”
The coffee grinder stopped in front of him, turned around, and left the kitchen.
Moments later, screams from a girl and curses from a man came from the front hall.
Then came the buzzing sound of coffee beans being ground, the girl’s screams growing weaker and weaker, until finally there was no sound at all, leaving only the man’s sobs.
You Zile slid to the ground, his eyes vacant.
We looked at each other, seeing shock in one another’s eyes.
