Chapter 10
“Dear guests, what kind of candy would you like to eat~”
The Sugar Plum Fairy waved her magic wand and conjured up dozens of different candies. She looked at us excitedly: “Everyone can pick any candy you like, but if you accidentally choose a poisonous one, you’ll die~”
Everyone’s faces turned ashen. With so many candies, who could tell which were poisonous and which weren’t? Wasn’t this instance just forcing up the player death rate?
Someone muttered quietly, “Isn’t this supposed to be a coffee shop? What’s with eating candy?”
The Sugar Plum Fairy immediately turned her head, smiling as she shook her magic wand: “Don’t want to eat candy? Do you want to taste my syrup instead?”
That person was so frightened he immediately fell silent, not daring to utter another word.
Liu Yating asked in a low voice, “What do we have to do to be allowed to leave?”
The Sugar Plum Fairy didn’t seem to like her, snorted, and turned away, ignoring her.
Ye Tiancheng, who hadn’t spoken for a while, stood up, walked over to the Sugar Plum Fairy, bent down, and asked, “Can you tell me how we can get out? It’s really important to us. Please.”
He added a melancholy smile for good measure.
The Sugar Plum Fairy clutched her chest, her cheeks flushed, her eyes a little dazed: “As long as you can find the candy I like, you can leave.”
Ye Tiancheng continued, “So what kind of candy do you like?”
“Of course, what I like is-” The Sugar Plum Fairy was just about to say, but suddenly covered her mouth with both hands and shook her head desperately, “I can’t say! I can’t say!”
She took two steps back and disappeared with a “pop.”
Ye Tiancheng straightened up and shrugged at us: “The pretty boy tactic failed.”
Everyone looked at him with admiration. Flirting with the boss-impressive.
I coughed. “It’s not a total failure. At least we know that as long as we find the candy the Sugar Plum Fairy likes, we can leave.”
You Zile sneered, “Easier said than done. There are dozens of candies here. Do you know which one she likes? What if we pick the wrong one and get killed on the spot!”
That was entirely possible. You didn’t necessarily have to eat the candy to be poisoned; just touching the wrapper or the candy itself might be enough. If that were the case, it would be such an unjust way to die.
Everyone stared helplessly at the colorful candies.
I moved among the candies, not daring to touch them, only carefully reading the names on the wrappers.
The writing on the wrappers was all in English. Luckily, my English was decent, so I could understand most of them.
After looking at all the candies, a question popped into my mind, and I couldn’t help but say, “Huh?”
“Is something wrong?” Bai Cancan came over, looking at the candies with a headache. “It’s torture to look but not eat. Why does Christmas have to treat me like this!”
I asked her, “Do you know how to say Sugar Plum Fairy in English?”
Bai Cancan shook her head. “I only know a little English. I gave the rest back to the teacher. How could I know?”
“Sugar Plum Fairy.”
Ye Tiancheng walked over and said, “Are you suggesting she likes plum candy or prune candy?”
I nodded. “‘Plum’ can mean plum or prune in English. Did you notice the color of her clothes just now?”
Ye Tiancheng: “She wore all sorts of colors, but mostly deep purple and light purple.”
“Exactly. Plums and prunes are purple. And most importantly,” I looked at the candies, “there aren’t any of those two kinds here.”
Ye Tiancheng: “Yeah, I noticed that too when I was looking at the candies. Looks like the Sugar Plum Fairy hid those two types on purpose so we wouldn’t find them.”
Now that we had a general direction, everyone was much more motivated to search.
Liu Yating led a group to search the front, while the three of us went to the kitchen and storage room in the back.
Though these two rooms weren’t big, finding two tiny candies was still a challenge. We had to search every inch, not missing a single spot.
Time ticked by, and before we knew it, it was already 3:30 p.m.
The rules of the instance stated that we had to reach a room with no sugar content before 6 p.m. Now, with candies everywhere in the café, it was extremely dangerous.
“Let’s find a place to rest first,” Ye Tiancheng said cautiously. “We don’t want to attract another boss before we even find the candies.”
We temporarily gave up looking for the candies and split up to search for a place to stay tonight.
In the end, Bai Cancan found a loose floorboard in the corner of the storage room. When she pried it open, there was actually a basement underneath.
Inside were things like flour and coffee beans.
After checking several times to make sure there was nothing containing sugar inside, we decided to spend the night there.
