chapter 3
Starting from the next day, I began investigating the strange incidents my friend had mentioned.
Judging by the events themselves, I couldn’t find any obvious connection between them.
According to my friend’s account, her colleague lived in that house and didn’t experience any discomfort; overall, her life there was quite good, except for the occasional bizarre occurrences.
For renters, after all, the house isn’t their own, and it’s common to feel out of place at first. Perhaps they simply mistook their discomfort for supernatural events.
It’s like when I used to rent a place and always found long strands of women’s hair around the house. Later, I discovered that the previous tenant was a woman with long hair. The reason there was always women’s hair in the house was, first, some corners hadn’t been cleaned thoroughly, and second, the broom used for cleaning had a lot of her hair stuck to it. As I swept the floor, these hairs would fall out, giving me the illusion that there was always women’s hair in the house.
Therefore, I believed that the series of strange phenomena in that apartment could definitely be explained rationally.
At the very least, I didn’t believe my friend’s claim that the house was haunted.
With this in mind, I continued to study the house’s situation according to my notes.
Two days passed, and I still hadn’t found any clues, until I suddenly noticed this spot on the second floor.
Since I rarely dealt with these kinds of floor plans, I couldn’t tell what it actually looked like just from the picture.
So I sent the diagram to my friend, along with a message.
Diandeng: “Do you have a photo of this spot?”
My friend didn’t reply for a while.
Friend: “I’ll ask my colleague for one. She should be at home now.”
A few minutes later, I received a photo from my friend.
Friend: “She just took this for me.”
Looking at the photo, I finally understood the layout.
That area was an extension of the second-floor corridor; the black line was actually the continuation of the stair railing.
Staring at the photo, I picked up the floor plan again. Combining it with my previous conversations with my friend, a vague outline began to form in my mind.
I overlapped the two floor plans to test my theory.
Looking at the diagram, I reached a terrifying conclusion.
There was a dead person in this house.

I looked it up online.
