Chapter 49

The man’s sudden gaze caused several of them to freeze for a moment.

Qin Nan picked up the drink on the table and raised his glass toward the man. Seeing this, the man chuckled, took a sip of his own drink, and gestured back at Qin Nan. Qin Nan remained calm and took a sip in response.

Once the man saw Qin Nan drink, he shifted his gaze away.

As soon as he did, Qin Nan quickly set his glass down. “God bless us. I hope this ancestor isn’t a Vampire.” Otherwise, Qin Nan was truly afraid that by raising his glass, he had just marked himself as the Vampire’s next meal.

Qin Weiyi chuckled. “If you’re that scared, why did you respond to him?”

“There are five of us here. You; the kid; Lu Jing, who’s too honest and blunt to react in time; Mu Xin, who’s a girl; and Jian Fan…” Qin Nan paused, then said, “Do you really think he’d do something like that? I didn’t want to take on this job either.”

If the other party was a Vampire, failing to respond would be equally dangerous; it would essentially tell them that they were being watched and suspected. By responding, even if the man was a Vampire, they were at least signaling that they weren’t paying him any special attention. After all, in a place like a bar, it wasn’t uncommon for strangers to lock eyes and raise a glass from across the room as a friendly gesture.

While there was a risk of being targeted, there was also a chance they could just blend in.

Besides, it was better for one person to be targeted than the whole group.

They were all part of a team-or at least a temporary one-and Qin Nan felt he needed to show some team spirit.

However, Qin Nan looked at Qin Weiyi suspiciously. “You guys wouldn’t just leave me to die, right?”

“Before, maybe. Now, at least in this world, we won’t,” Qin Weiyi answered bluntly. Qin Nan wasn’t surprised by this; after all, no one here was a reincarnated saint.

Jian Fan suddenly spoke up. “Just in case, don’t wander off alone from now on.”

“You think the Vampire will go after people who are alone?” Qin Nan asked.

Jian Fan nodded. “Wang Hao didn’t chase after us.”

Wang Hao didn’t know they were already aware of his issues. From Wang Hao’s perspective, if he wanted to target this group of Players, staying with them would obviously be the best choice. Yet, he hadn’t chosen to follow them. Instead, he had stayed in the private booth with another Player.

He was moving against that other Player.

Lu Jing swallowed hard. “So, are there two Vampires now?”

“They might not be Vampires, but either way, it’s best to be careful,” Qin Weiyi replied.

As they talked, Wang Hao and the other person reappeared in the main hall of the bar.

They scanned the room before walking toward Qi Shuping and Xu Tian. Qin Nan and the others noticed this immediately; they had been observing their surroundings the whole time, so Wang Hao’s appearance did not escape their notice.

“Hey.” Qin Nan nudged Jian Fan. “Do you want to go warn Professor Qi?”

He could tell that Jian Fan respected Qi Shuping, but at the same time, he seemed to be hesitating. To others, it might seem normal for Jian Fan to be wary of her since they hadn’t met in the real world and were currently in an unknown situation within the Realm of Death. However, Qin Nan felt that Jian Fan wasn’t wary because he was afraid Qi Shuping would stab him in the back; rather, he was suspicious.

Thinking back to when Jian Fan mentioned that Xia Zeqin might not be Xia Zeqin, Qin Nan couldn’t help but feel that Jian Fan suspected Qi Shuping wasn’t actually Qi Shuping either.
But what if Qi Shuping really was the same Qi Shuping that Jian Fan knew? If so, leaving two time bombs by her side was dangerous. If something really happened to her, Qin Nan felt that Jian Fan would never forgive himself.

Jian Fan remained silent.

It wasn’t just Wang Hao and the other man; there was also Xu Tian. Qi Shuping was surrounded by three time bombs.

“The old lady hasn’t had it easy,” Qin Nan prompted gently.

Jian Fan frowned, still hesitant to make a decision. “Let me think about it some more.”

Mu Xin and the others could tell there was subtext to their conversation, but none of them asked for clarification. They gave Jian Fan some space-or more accurately, they knew they wouldn’t get an answer even if they asked. They had no desire to do something annoying that offered no benefit.

“What do you think Xia Zeqin might have found?” Qin Weiyi started a new topic.

His words drew everyone’s attention back to Xia Zeqin.

Their group had been moving around more or less, but Xia Zeqin was still on the dance floor. From the moment they arrived in this world, that was the only thing he had done.

Based on Xia Zeqin’s performance in the previous two worlds, he didn’t seem like the type of person to do something like this without a reason. If he hadn’t sensed something, he wouldn’t have stayed on the dance floor for so long.

“Should we go too?” Qin Weiyi asked, looking a bit restless.

Qin Nan scanned Qin Weiyi from head to toe and said, “You’re a minor.”

Qin Weiyi rolled his eyes. “There are new regulations now; even minors have time limits on how long they can play games. Why don’t you tell the Realm of Death to kick me out then?”

Qin Nan: “…”

He couldn’t argue with that.

Mu Xin pressed her lips together to stifle a laugh. When Qin Nan noticed, he immediately shot her a cold, sharp glare.

Qin Weiyi turned back to Jian Fan. “What do you think? Or should we split up and coordinate?”

Jian Fan didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he looked at the screen in the center of the stage. “Time flows faster here than normal.” The time displayed on the screen was already past 3:00 AM.

“Yes. If midnight was the opening of Pandora’s box, then in a Vampire world, the first second the sun rises should be when the box is closed again. I’m not sure if that time is 5:00 or 6:00,” Qin Weiyi agreed, nodding.

They didn’t seem to have encountered anything too terrifying yet. If it weren’t for what Qin Nan and Jian Fan had told them, it would seem as if nothing horrific had happened since they entered this world. It was completely unlike the Realm of Death they knew.

“Perhaps the peace of this night is because the Vampires have already found their food,” Qin Nan suddenly remarked.

Everyone turned to look at him.

Qin Nan felt a bit uncertain. “I definitely don’t know more about the Realm of Death than you guys do. I’m just thinking with a bit of normal logic. I can’t guarantee I’m a hundred percent right; it’s just a guess. I think if a Vampire is full, they naturally won’t hunt anymore. They probably have a limit on how many they prey on each day. Once they hit that quota, they stop for the night. Even if they’ve scouted new prey, they’d likely just observe from the shadows and save them for the next day. After all, fresh blood from a new kill is better than blood from a corpse, right?”

Qin Weiyi nodded. “That makes sense. From what we know now, Wang Hao and that other guy are likely gone. If that’s the case, it means the Vampires need to prey on two Players every day.”

“Not necessarily,” Jian Fan interrupted.
