Chapter 35

The deceased’s family was incredibly wealthy.

You could tell just from the environment they lived in, but the true realization only hit when standing before the Vault.

A vault, filled with several chests of gold-it lived up to its name.

After circling the room once, Qin Weiyi’s brow furrowed slightly. He had witnessed the sheer opulence of the Vault, but where were the clues? The Vault had only opened at this stage, so there had to be something to find here. Yet, after a full sweep, he hadn’t discovered anything.

“There doesn’t seem to be anything strange here,” Zheng Jueming spoke up again, then looked toward Lin Junruo. “Junruo, did you find anything?”

Lin Junruo shook her head.

Only after receiving her response did Zheng Jueming look at Qin Weiyi. “Did you find anything?”

Qin Weiyi shook his head.

“If there’s nothing, should we move on to another spot?” Zheng Jueming suggested.

Qin Weiyi smiled. “You seem exceptionally proactive today.”

Zheng Jueming paused for a moment but quickly smiled back. “Shouldn’t I be proactive? After all, in a place like this, no one is reliable. The only person you can trust is yourself.”

Qin Weiyi raised an eyebrow, not contradicting him.

A person shouldn’t just think about relying on others; Qin Weiyi naturally advocated for self-reliance. However, Zheng Jueming’s previous behavior had been anything but that. This sudden shift in attitude undoubtedly confirmed the suspicion brewing in Qin Weiyi’s mind.

He was just missing the evidence.

There was definitely something hidden in this Vault.

“How about we split up the work?” Qin Weiyi proposed. “The Vault didn’t open until the third round; it’s impossible that it’s just for us to take a tour. If you think there are no clues here, you can leave first.”

Without waiting for Zheng Jueming’s answer, Qin Weiyi continued to wander around the Vault.

Zheng Jueming’s expression stiffened, but he quickly forced a smile. “Let’s stay together.”

Qin Weiyi wasn’t surprised.

Zheng Jueming’s behavior only further proved that the Vault was unusual. But where exactly was the problem?

Qin Weiyi’s mind began to race. His gaze swept over every aspect of the Vault, not missing a single corner. After an unknown amount of time, his eyes stopped, landing directly on one spot.

He stepped forward and picked up a piece of gold from a chest.

“What is it?” Lu Jing followed him and asked.

Qin Weiyi’s gaze swept over the chests of gold one by one. He curled his lips into a smirk and asked, “What do you think of these chests of gold?”

Lu Jing didn’t quite understand. “Very extravagant?”

Qin Weiyi chuckled but said nothing.

Zheng Jueming noticed them and his expression shifted, but he tried his best to maintain his composure as he walked over. “Find something?”

Qin Weiyi shook his head. “No. It seems my deduction was wrong. Let’s head somewhere else.” Having said that, he took the lead and walked out. Lu Jing naturally followed immediately.

Zheng Jueming frowned.

Recalling Qin Weiyi’s reaction just now, he clenched his fists, feeling a surge of anxiety.

“Jueming, why are you just standing there? Let’s go,” Lin Junruo called out to him.

Zheng Jueming snapped back to his senses, gave a quick reply, and hurried after them.

The third round of evidence collection ended quickly, and the ten Players gathered once more in the main hall.

“The Third Young Master’s cause of death was gold swallowing,” Xia Zeqin said, getting straight to the point. After speaking, he looked at Qin Weiyi. “Did you find anything in the Vault?”

The cause of death was gold swallowing, and the Vault had just opened in this round; there was a very high probability of a connection between the two.

Qin Weiyi gave an affirmative nod and said, “There is gold missing from the Vault.”
Lu Jing was slightly surprised, but he quickly regained his composure. Nothing Qin Weiyi said surprised him anymore. Lin Junruo, on the other hand, asked directly, “How do you know some gold is missing?”

“It’s simple. Those chests were all filled to the brim with gold, except for one. That specific chest was missing about one layer-roughly twenty bars. It’s unlikely they just ran out of gold to fill that last chest; it’s much more probable that the killer took them,” Qin Weiyi explained.

Xia Zeqin nodded. “The killer took the gold, and one of those bars was used to murder the Third Young Master.”

The Third Young Master died in his own courtyard. So, why would the killer show up there carrying gold bars?

Qin Nan’s gaze swept toward Mu Xin out of the corner of his eye.

Assuming the killer was Zheng Jueming, then after stealing the gold from the Vault, the Accountant must have gone to find the Third Young Lady, intending to take her away. He likely ran into the Third Young Master along the way. Naturally, the Third Young Master would have tried to stop him, so the killer simply got rid of him.

This logic held up.

However, it wasn’t enough.

“What about your side?” Qin Weiyi looked toward Jian Fan.

Jian Fan slid the booklet detailing the Resurrection Technique into the center of the group.

Qin Weiyi was the first to pick it up. After reading the contents, he asked in confusion, “Who is Feng Xian?”

The booklet mentioned that Feng Xian had died after giving birth, so Qin Weiyi couldn’t immediately connect her to the other characters.

“The Eldest Miss’s biological mother,” Qin Nan explained. “There’s a secret room in Father’s bedroom. Feng Xian’s corpse is inside.”

“He wants to bring Feng Xian back to life?” Qin Weiyi was shocked. Then, recalling his experience when time had rewound earlier, everything clicked into place. For the first time, he made a gesture completely out of character-he let out a low whistle. “That’s insane.”

Qin Nan was observing everyone’s expressions.

Lu Jing hadn’t encountered any of this information yet. He looked stunned upon hearing it, and though he quickly returned to his expressionless state, the slight furrow in his brow betrayed his inner conflict.

Xia Zeqin remained calm, but even his lip twitched slightly, seemingly speechless at the situation. As for Lin Junruo, she looked utterly bewildered.

In contrast, the Player acting as the Second Master remained composed, as if he already knew. Xu Tian showed a flash of surprise before calming down; she had likely found some clues regarding the Resurrection Technique herself.

Most important, however, was Zheng Jueming.

Zheng Jueming didn’t look shocked at all. On the contrary, he seemed preoccupied, his mind elsewhere.

Qin Nan admitted that in terms of raw intelligence, he couldn’t match the likes of Jian Fan or Qin Weiyi. But when it came to reading people, he was highly confident. He could tell that Zheng Jueming’s reaction was extremely suspicious.

Still, this didn’t explain how the Accountant would know about this secret.

Qin Nan began to piece together the clues they had gathered so far.

The items in his own room-the poison-must have been meant for the victim. The blood-stained Embroidered Shoe belonged to either his mother or his lover; the latter was more likely, serving to flesh out the Second Young Master’s personal subplot with his sweetheart.

The dagger in Jian Fan’s room came from the Taoist priest and was linked to the Resurrection Technique. The bloodied undergarments were a gift from the Eldest Miss. The item in the Second Miss’s room was likely planted by the killer to frame her, and the items in the others’ rooms seemed only intended to cast suspicion on everyone.

So, what were they missing?

Qin Nan’s eyes suddenly lit up.

That strange Account Book!
