Chapter 33

As the person the deceased favored most, the Eldest Miss indeed had no motive.

If she had learned the deceased’s secret, she shouldn’t have just castrated him; she should have killed him outright.

Mu Xin let out a dry laugh. “Perhaps love conquers all.”

As soon as those words were out, Qin Nan understood. He gave Jian Fan, who was walking at the head of the group, a meaningful look. “Because of our Doctor Jian Fan?”

“Be precise,” Jian Fan reminded him coldly.

Qin Nan smiled.

Mu Xin continued, “On the day the victim was murdered, Lin Junruo chose to go to the deceased’s courtyard. By the time she arrived, the deceased was already sitting in the chair. The dagger and the wound on his forehead were already there. Then, the Eldest Miss pulled the dagger from the deceased’s chest and castrated him.”

“She used the dagger from the deceased’s chest?” Jian Fan caught the key point.

Mu Xin hummed in affirmation.

When they had seen the deceased again, the dagger was still stuck in his chest.

“After she castrated him, what happened to the dagger?” Jian Fan asked.

“From what Lin Junruo saw, the Eldest Miss was terrified after she finished. She didn’t give the dagger a second thought; she probably just threw it on the ground. After the castration, she took the… part… away, wrapped in the undergarments the deceased was wearing at the time. As for where it went after that, Lin Junruo doesn’t know, but she hasn’t found it in her room,” Mu Xin said.

Jian Fan paused, then said, “She likely gave it to the Doctor. I found a pair of blood-stained undergarments in the room.”

As for that specific ‘item,’ it had probably found a different home.

“Then how do you know it was because of love?” Qin Nan asked.

Mu Xin replied, “That brings us to the second time jump that happened not long ago.”

Qin Nan’s brow twitched. Lin Junruo really trusted Mu Xin. Even with everything that had just happened and the Third Young Master being dead, she hadn’t forgotten to share her information with Mu Xin.

Mu Xin continued, “When Lin Junruo saw them, the Eldest Miss and the Doctor already shared deep feelings for one another. But one day, the Doctor suddenly distanced himself, acting as if he wanted to cut ties completely.”

This timeframe should have been after what Jian Fan had experienced.

How could the Eldest Miss accept her lover suddenly turning cold overnight? She needed an answer.

She began to pester the Doctor frequently, trying every means possible to investigate. Finally, one day, she discovered the Doctor was meeting a young woman in private. She confronted the woman and learned something from her.

The woman told the Eldest Miss: ‘He cannot be with you because he is your half-brother.'”

When Qin Nan heard this, he didn’t know what expression to make.

Just when you thought it was a melodrama, it turned into a horror story; and just when you thought it was a horror story, it turned back into a melodrama.

Mu Xin was still talking.

“The choice Lin Junruo had to make was whether to believe this woman or not. She chose to believe her.” At this point, Mu Xin rolled her eyes in exasperation.

Qin Nan quickly realized what was wrong. “So, the woman was lying to the Eldest Miss?”

“I think it’s obvious,” Mu Xin said.

If it were the truth, why would there be a choice? If Lin Junruo had chosen not to believe her, perhaps she could have learned more about the Doctor. But as it happened, Lin Junruo had watched too many soap operas and actually fell for the trope.

“So, the Eldest Miss felt her father couldn’t keep it in his pants, which directly led to the death of her romance, and thus she loathed the deceased. But she didn’t hate him enough to want him dead, so she just castrated her own father and then… gave the part to the Doctor?” Qin Nan tried to wrap his head around the Eldest Miss’s logic.
Qin Nan was utterly impressed by the Eldest Miss.

“She really is a piece of work,” Qin Nan finally remarked with a sigh.

Mu Xin shrugged.

“Actually, I’m quite curious about the Doctor’s true identity.” Mu Xin shifted her gaze toward Jian Fan.

The Doctor had gone to great lengths to orchestrate this situation. It was unlikely he actually wanted the Eldest Miss to castrate the deceased. So, why had he taken such a convoluted path? What was his ultimate goal?

“He’s likely here to stop this resurrection plan,” Jian Fan explained simply.

Mu Xin understood immediately.

The outcome the Doctor wanted was nothing more than to drive a wedge between the Eldest Miss and the deceased. As long as the Eldest Miss remembered the Doctor, she could never reconcile with her own father without reservation. Consequently, she would inevitably keep her distance from the deceased.

The logic held up, but this method-Mu Xin twitched the corner of her mouth-was certainly something else.

“Perhaps there’s one more thing. He probably hopes the Eldest Miss can stop the deceased from harming any more young women,” Jian Fan added.

This made the situation even more plausible. It was because the deceased had been a philanderer that the Doctor’s own tragedy had occurred. Thus, the Eldest Miss would be more likely to stop the deceased to prevent a repeat of such a tragedy.

At this point, the general background of the story was clear.

The conversation returned to the main topic.

“Based on my understanding of Lin Junruo, she’s telling the truth. She isn’t the killer. That leaves two people, and since the Player for the Third Young Master is already dead, the result is right in front of us,” Mu Xin said.

Indeed, it was.

However, there was still one problem.

“Even if we know who the killer is, I don’t know if the Realm of Death will accept this logical analysis,” Mu Xin noted. This was precisely why she had chosen this moment to ask to join Jian Fan and Qin Nan’s team.

She needed more information to piece together the full sequence of events.

She couldn’t just say that because so-and-so was smart, they weren’t the killer, or because so-and-so was a teammate, they wouldn’t let their own teammate be the culprit.

“Every lead exists for a reason,” Qin Nan said suddenly.

Mu Xin understood this, of course, but she was puzzled. “What are you trying to say?”

“If we’ve determined that Zheng Jueming is the killer, then think about it from the perspective of the Accountant. The killer used the Taiji Diagram, so he must have known the deceased’s secret. How did he find out? If you connect the deceased’s secret with the relationship between him and the Third Young Lady…” Qin Nan’s lips curled into a smirk. “Doesn’t it become obvious?”

“You think the Accountant discovered the deceased’s secret and then told the Third Young Lady?” Jian Fan grasped Qin Nan’s implication.

Based on the current web of relationships, it was impossible for the Third Young Lady to have told the Accountant. Therefore, it must have been the Accountant who told the Third Young Lady. Then, the Third Young Lady informed the Third Young Master, and the two of them began their act. If this was the reason, then the Accountant’s desire to take the Third Young Lady away-even after she had declared her stance-made even more sense.

He didn’t think the Third Young Lady didn’t love the Third Young Master; he simply wanted to save the woman he loved.

“But what about his gambling debts? Is there no connection there?” Mu Xin raised a doubt.
