Chapter 31
Chapter 31
Mu Xin’s lips curled slightly as she saw the speechless look on Qin Nan’s face.
“Let’s talk while we walk,” she suggested.
Qin Nan and Jian Fan had no objections.
“The Third Young Lady and the Accountant were childhood sweethearts. However, the Third Young Lady’s true love is actually the Third Young Master, though the Accountant has never seen it that way. He believes his Childhood Sweetheart was forced into the marriage against her will. So, after she married into the family, he followed right behind her to become the Accountant here. He’s been constantly trying to contact her in private, hoping to convince her to elope with him,” Mu Xin explained, her tone laced with exasperation.
If there was ever a man who was so mediocre yet so confident, it was likely this Accountant.
“The Third Young Lady and the Third Young Master did have a falling out on purpose, but I’m not entirely sure why. It likely has something to do with a child. Because of their fake fallout, the Accountant has become even more…” Mu Xin’s expression became difficult to describe.
This was all information she had gathered not long ago.
It wasn’t just confidence. In the scenes Mu Xin had witnessed after rewinding time, the Accountant was constantly trying to get handsy with the Third Young Lady. Although she didn’t like him, she had refrained from exposing his behavior out of consideration for their childhood bond.
“So, there’s a grudge between the Third Young Master and the Accountant because of the Third Young Lady,” Qin Nan summarized.
Jian Fan looked over. “You suspect Zheng Jueming?”
“Well, the most likely suspect is already dead, so isn’t Zheng Jueming next in line? It’s just that while the Accountant has a motive to kill the Third Young Master, why would he kill the Master of the house? And how would he know about things like the Taiji Diagram?” Qin Nan mused.
“Let’s go take a look first,” Jian Fan replied, unable to give him an answer at the moment.
Mu Xin frowned slightly. “Taiji Diagram?”
They still had no answers regarding the Taiji Diagram found beneath the victim or the tattoo on his back, but from Qin Nan and Jian Fan’s conversation, it seemed they had discovered something.
Qin Nan glanced at Mu Xin and said, “There’s a secret room in the victim’s quarters.”
A secret room?
Mu Xin was startled.
“Not only that, there’s a dead body hidden inside,” Qin Nan continued.
Mu Xin froze in her tracks for a moment before regaining her stride. “Do we know who it is?”
“Yes. The Eldest Miss’s biological mother,” Qin Nan revealed without hesitation.
Since Mu Xin had shared her information, Qin Nan didn’t mind sharing what he had found. Moreover, he was certain that the things he had experienced, once revealed, would have a massive impact on the progression of this script.
Qin Nan felt his luck was actually quite good; he had pulled a role that was clearly pivotal.
Mu Xin’s mind was flooded with questions, but Qin Nan couldn’t explain everything at once. Amidst their discussion, they arrived back at the victim’s courtyard.
Entering the courtyard again, Qin Nan finally understood why the Second Young Master had stopped there earlier.
There was a painting hanging on that specific wall.
Qin Nan stepped forward and took the painting down. Then, following what he had seen before, he tapped on the surrounding area. Before long, the wall slid to the side, revealing the secret passage behind it.
Jian Fan took a candle from the table, lit it, and took the lead.
“You go in the middle,” Qin Nan said, showing some chivalry.
Mu Xin naturally didn’t refuse.
Once Mu Xin followed, Qin Nan brought up the rear to cover them.
The three of them soon reached the secret room.
Since this was Qin Nan’s second time, he was mentally prepared. He maintained a calm expression and even took an interest in introducing the room to the other two. “There are Taiji Diagrams on the ceiling and under the coffin. I’m guessing the red parts of the diagram on the floor are blood.”
Following Qin Nan’s words, the other two naturally turned their gazes toward the sight.
Jian Fan was a man who never showed his emotions, so the scene before him only caused the corner of his mouth to twitch slightly. Mu Xin, on the other hand, despite her usual facade, was still just a young girl; seeing this so suddenly caused her face to turn pale with fright.
“What is he trying to do?” Mu Xin asked.
Qin Nan stepped forward and pointed at the person in the coffin. “Resurrect her.”
Mu Xin’s eyes widened.
Clearly, she was also struggling to adapt to the shifting nature of this Murder Mystery Game.
Qin Nan’s perspective earlier had been restricted by his character in the Script, so he hadn’t been able to move freely within the secret chamber. Now, he naturally wanted to take a proper look.
After answering Mu Xin, Qin Nan focused his attention on the coffin, and Jian Fan stepped forward with him.
During the time reversal, the corpse Qin Nan had seen was a Faceless Person. Here, however, he saw a female corpse that indeed shared seventy to eighty percent of its features with Lin Junruo.
The female corpse wore a red bridal gown, her hair styled in an exquisite bun and her face adorned with delicate makeup. It was clear how much care the deceased master of the house had put into this body. However, the corpse looked very young. Considering Lin Junruo’s self-introduction earlier-where she mentioned she had never seen her biological mother since birth-it was highly likely that something had happened to her mother shortly after the Eldest Miss was born.
This meant the corpse had likely been preserved for over a decade.
“I’m curious how this body was preserved,” Qin Nan said.
There was no decay and no odor. If the Second Young Master hadn’t checked for breath and if she wasn’t lying in a coffin, one might have simply thought she was a sleeping bride.
Jian Fan didn’t answer Qin Nan. Instead, he fixed his gaze on the massive Taiji Diagram beneath their feet.
“Where do you think the mothers of those young masters and misses went?” Jian Fan suddenly asked.
Qin Nan paused.
The Eldest Young Master’s biological mother was a childhood friend of the deceased master, and the Second Young Master’s mother was his legitimate wife. Although both had passed away, their existence was at least documented. But what about the others? Where were the mothers of the Third Young Master, the Fourth Young Master, and the Second Miss?
Qin Nan looked at the flowing red liquid and swallowed hard. “You’re not suggesting that all of this… is their blood, are you?” He pointed at the moving liquid.
“Given the way things are going, it’s highly probable.”
Qin Nan: “…”
“I don’t know whether to call this man devoted or a psychopath.” Qin Nan managed to steady his nerves and pulled his gaze away from the red liquid.
“Check the coffin,” Jian Fan said again.
Qin Nan had no objections.
To check the coffin, they had to move the body.
Qin Nan and Jian Fan worked together to lift the corpse out of the coffin. But the moment they moved it, the body-which had looked perfectly fresh and intact-suddenly began to disintegrate at a speed visible to the naked eye. Within moments, it had turned into a skeleton.
The two had been holding the head and feet, but the skeleton couldn’t hold its form. It collapsed, clattering to the floor along with the jewelry the body had been wearing.
“What the hell?” Qin Nan stared at the scene, dumbfounded.
Jian Fan’s gaze, however, was already fixed on the coffin itself.
